Description
Finally finished a -hopefully- final version of a part of the colossus island, of which there are 2. This is the upper north-eastern corner of the west island.
I'm sure I'll do a thing where I make a list of all the places idk, I'm pretty bad at doing that.
CITIES
Farsummit City
> A city built by the dwarves to hide from the surplus of giant monsters on the island. Eventually, a truce was made between many races to form a massive underground city built of several districts. Each level focuses on a different thing; The lower districts focus more on adventurers and guilds and magic; the higher districts focus on technology. This place is one of the few locations you can find a mage and a cyborg in the same café.
Illya
> A kingdom of dark elves enshrouded in the woods. The design is open air, and features a lot of hand carved stone work combined with overgrowth. The prince governs the place in his parents' stead, while they travel around for political reasons. The prince is in the process of being set up with a 'normal' elf of across the water to promote a unity between the previously warring species.
Saltstone Landing
> A fishing community also protected by the mountains. This is where most of the travellers and adventurers arrive and leave. This place, though not as fancy or large as Farsummit, is often very bustling, and is reminiscent of a busy, Victorian town.
Zeteros; City of Nagas
> On the southern half of the eastern Colossus Island lies a massive desert. In the middle of that desert is a city made of hardened sandstone and hand-dug caves and dens. This is Zeteros, the city of nagas. Here, the giant species compete for dominance, territory, mates, and so on. They've only been 'civilized' for a small collection of centuries, and struggles often happen between rivals and they operate more like a very large, vitriolic village.
The Walled City of Osenbury
> A large city made by humans in the past in an attempt to survive the giants of the island. This worked, though its capacity is limited. A massive wall surrounds the large city, protecting the inhabitants. During an occult epidemic, a monster was summoned that laid waste to half the town before fleeing east.
Aermont
> A small town spread over a small peninsula in Pincer Lake. They're able to survive the giants simply due to distance from the forest, and the lake is large enough that the opposing shores can't see the small fishing village very well.
Ferbos
> Another village surviving by being far enough away from the forests. Founded by pirates, Ferbos is a town made of scumbags and villainy.
WATER… PLACES
The Gaping Maw
> A blue hole in the middle of an uninhabited island. Rumours say that there was once an ancient tribe living on the island, who would worship a god that lived in the blue hole.
Delism Lake
> A small lake in the dark elf territory. A fairly popular place for lovers to meet, though recently there've been sightings of something in the water...
Lake of Mirrors
> A shimmering, untouched lake on Wyvern's Isle. It's rumoured the water can cure wounds.
Belina Sea
> A common bay used for fishing sailing. The bay is shallow enough to keep the sea-dwelling giants out, keeping the human sized sailors safe.
Palaemy Strait
> An expanse of ocean between the Saltstone Landing and
Atlelean Ocean
> The ocean most travelled to get to and leave the island. Shallow enough that the population of giants in the water is less so. Unfortunately, as these waters are more travelled, the population of pirates is high here. One of the most famous being Captain Silas and his band on the Misty Maw.
Pincer Lake
> A massive interior lake that has its own peninsula, making it look sort of like a claw. There have been sightings of a giant swimming in its depths, but no deaths have reportedly occurred by any such monster.
Osira Sea
> The large span of ocean between the western and eastern main islands. It's seldom travelled due to its overpopulation of giant monsters in its inky depths.
Aegr Bay
> A bay once used as a haven from giants years and years ago. Since then, it's been popular with sea-lamia and sea-dragons, and other, smaller serpentine or reptilian giants.
FORESTS AND ISLANDS
Illyad Woods
> A forest that was planted hundreds of years ago by the first settlers on the islands; The dark elves. As this forest was brought from their homelands, it's the only forest on the island to be "human size". The trees are the same size as the ones you would find in your average forest. Seemingly towering, but in comparison to the rest of the island, they're very small. There are very few dangers in these woods, and it's often travelled by the residents of Farsummit and Illya both.
Wyvern's Isle
> An abandoned island that was once home to a god; If the rumours are to be believed, then he might still be there. The island is covered in cave systems that leave the wayward explorer lost in minutes. It's rare visitors are often healers and doctors looking for supplies. The island is covered in herbs, fungi, and other bits and bobs that are imperative to a lot of medicine that only the western island can provide. Funnily enough, these healers and doctors often adhere to the folk legend of the god. It says to pay tribute to the old god by sacrificing gold to the caves, where he supposedly lives.
The Jade Caverns
> A large expanse of caves and caverns that lead from the safe, human cities to the chaotic world of the giant monsters. It's said that if you take the wrong caves you might end up the plaything of a giant slime. Thankfully, however, it's also said that no one has ever died from such an encounter.
Thanks to the caves' small sizes around the entrances, no giant has ever made it through, save for the amorphous slime.
Serpent's Woods
> A chunk of forest named after its soul giant inhabitant; A naga. Supposedly the only one on the western island. He jealously protects his land from other giants, making the exit from Jade caverns fairly safe. It's recommended to bring a bottle of potent poison when travelling the serpent's woods, as he is wary of food that can hurt him.
There are also rumours of a human living with the naga as a pet. People have rarely seen him in the forest, but many know him as the redhead that comes to sell the exotic meats and flora of the forest in the city.
The Lost Barrens
> A giant expanse of swampland and fog. People often go missing here, and it's said to house the monster that once ravaged the walled city of Osenbury. This place is commonly used by slave traders, poachers, and other unsavoury folk as a hide out.
The Green Plains
> A plain between the lost barrens and the jade mountains/caverns. A mostly safe place that houses smaller, more manageable monsters such as common green slimes.
The Chittering Forest
> Named due to the abundant population of insect-type monsters. It's not uncommon to find giant beehives, anthills, leaf nests and other bug-type homes. Though often less voracious than the fauna-type giants, the insect giants and their instinct driven ways can be equally as terrifying.
Aegr Swamps
> Swampland once used by humans as a haven away from the giants. It's since become a bit of a wasteland, overtaken by nature. Like many other locations around the island, old and rotting monuments still exist here, usually partially drowned in the swamp. If you can make it that far west, it's often considered one of the safest places to loot. Much safer than any forests, at least.
Deep Woods
> These dark, overbearing woods house only the most shadowy species, and consequently, the most treasure. Arachne are abundant in these forests, and traversing the web-laden trees is an absolute nightmare. What little adventurers have made it back will occasionally bring stories of the arachne and their beauty. One in particular in recent times has become quite popular for his golden thread, his more kind nature, and his own brand of intense physical beauty.
The Howling Wilds
> Another forest named after its inhabitants. This is home to the more fauna-like giants and is considered the most dangerous place to hunt or adventure.
The Shimmering Caves
> Home to a plague on this planet; A fairy king. So named because of a literal corruption of power. This king constantly gives off energy that fuels the forest around him, and feeds non-stop on any being that can be tricked by his fairies. He lays on a bed of crystal (It doesn’t bother him.) and waits for his little ones to bring him food. The caverns are underneath an inactive volcano that had sprouted out of nowhere on the whim of the fairy king.
The Mystic Forest
> The forest surrounding the volcano, filled with magical energy. This place is populated mostly by dryads, fairies, and other magic-type monsters. Considered a bit safer than the howling woods, as most of the 'hunting' monsters can be reasoned with, but it's still considered one of the most dangerous places on the island.
