Description
Location:
The Takusan-No Region,
Unknown Distance from Old World.
Only discovered in recent years, the Hunter’s Guild has been left perplexed by the high densities of Monster populations found in this region - making it even more populated than the most ecologically rich places in the Old World. Having constructed Komyuniti Village as a base of operations for the Guild’s research efforts, many hunters and researchers alike venture into the unknown landscape in search of the answers to Takusan-No’s secrets…
Regions
- - - - -
The Dune Sea
Apex Monster:
Bloodbath Diablos
- Cutting through the middle of the region is a massive desert, snug within a valley of two plateau’s on either side. Due to a massive mountain range cutting of the Arctic Sea’s moisture, this ocean of dunes formed in its place. This harsh environment is home to many monsters, all tough as nails to ensure their own survival in the heat and dehydrated wastes. Among the endless sand, islands of rock can be found where oasis’s and caves can be found to escape the desert heat… assuming a nesting Rathian hasn’t already claimed it as her own.
The Drilltusk Marsh
Apex Monster:
Drilltusk Tetscuabra
- In a small area of swampy marshland, sitting in the desert just below twin waterfalls coming down from The Dreadking’s Plateau, the home of almost all of Takusan-No’s Piscine Wyvern’s and Leviathans. Despite the large amount of Wyverns existing in a relatively small biome, it is kept in order by a Drilltusk Tetscuabra. It is possible that the algae rich waters of the plateau’s lakes have created such a nutrient rich soup at the location of the marsh that it allows so many Monsters to exist in this small region. Though further study is required.
The Dreadking’s Plateau
Apex Monster:
Dreadking Rathalos
- High enough that constant rainfall can support its lush ecosystem, this ancient forest is the most complex out of all the ecosystems in this region with the Rathalos-ruled canopy being almost a completely different world to the forest floor and its winding roots. Unlike the New World’s Ancient Forest, this lush plateau supports more Ancient Trees and anywhere else in the worlds - thus creating this difference in canopy. This chaotic mess of an ecosystem and it’s unusually high amount of breeding Rath’s is kept in check by its Apex - Dreadking Rathalos. This ancient Rath is likely the father of many Rathalos and Rathian found here due to his age, and fittingly inhabits the highest Ancient Tree in the forest. As apex, he typically gets the first pick of the females when they arrive in the summer months, migrating from elsewhere in the Old World to this bachelor forest of potential mates. While the Dreadking will only accept the strongest as his mate, he will mate with many Rathian which will then pair up with lesser Rathalos, or retreat to the desert edge in search of a cave or outcrop to nest at.
The Rustrazor Graveyard
Apex Monster:
Rustrazor Ceanataur
- Sitting between the dunes and the jungle in elevation is a graveyard of Wyvern, Beast, and Elder Dragon alike - where the humidity of the jungle above helps keep it damp and rotten. Due to a gargantuan Zorah Magdaros laying to rest on this plateau possibly millions of years ago, it has spawned the ultimate scavengers paradise. While it is unknown why so many Monsters come to this place to die, the effluvium vents that coat he area make it uninhabitable for many. Monsters have either adapted to the effluvium, or found ways to avoid its toxic layers while scavenging or hunting. Despite the chaos of this nearly all-predator ecosystem, it is held together the command of an usually powerful Rustrazor Ceanataur. How exactly this Carapaceon is able to content with rivals such as Odogaron or Deviljho is a mystery, and requires further research…
The Elderfrost Tundra
Apex Monster:
Elderfrost Gammoth
- Between the Arctic Sea and massive mountains that separate it from the warm or humid lands behind it, this arctic “wasteland” is teeming with life like no other place like it in the worlds. Between the massive herds of Gammoth and the large array of predators, it is far from lifeless. The cool temperatures and blasting winds keep it moist, and thus frozen, year-round. Up in the mountains is a very large village of native Wyverians, with a rich culture emphasizing the importance of natural balance that the Apex Monster’s provide. These Wyvernians are rumored to mine special stones from the mountain’s core, stones that allow them to bond with a Monster. Speaking of Apex’s, this region is kept in check by a Elderfrost Gammoth. The Bull of a massive nomadic herd that is large even by this region’s standards.
Cultures and Settlements
- - - - -
Komyuniti Village
- Established in recent years by the Hunter’s Guild, this village is home to many hunters and researchers alike. With all the necessary amenities for its inhabitants, it is a state of the art research outpost for its age.
Raidā Village
- The Wyverians of Raidā Village, which is carved into the mountains to help block out the wind, are a strange bunch. They are very connected with nature and rich in culture. Even more unique, they use blue stones mined from their mountain home to tame and bond with Large Monsters, A Kinship Stone. While these stones are just rumor to the hunters of the guild, it will not be long before contact is established with these people.
Various Grimalkyne and Boaboa Tribes
- The Skunkus Tribe, inhabiting The Drilltusk Marsh, have built their village within an underground cavern on the edge of the swamp - ensuring it does not flood during the rainy season. This ensures the social tribe of Grimalkynes can avoid Thr many predators of the surface marsh. They are known for collecting the oils off of dead Piscine Wyverns to use as lantern fuel. However, this also doubles as a producer of a noxious scent that helps keep Monsters away from their home.
- The Treeper Tribe live within the lower canopy of an ancient tree, found on the Dreadking’s Plateau, in a village spanning a large section of its massive branches. While able to live below the residence Rathalos’ nest and above the predators of the forest roots, the tribe lives in peace - only sending their bravest members down to the forest floor in search of food and supplies. Or, on a lucky day, higher within the tree in search of an unguarded Rathalos egg…
- The Boaboa Tribe are, as one might expect, a large gathering of Boaboa inhabiting a mountainside in the Elderfrost Tundra. Little is known about their kind due to lack of contact between them and the Hunter’s Guild, though it is known they possess close diplomatic relations with the people or Raidā Village.
