Description 18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on canvas

Here's a quick sketch of a Tropic Island scene. Of course, all my paintings are quick sketches, more or less, so that's nothing new. This time I tried painting on a sheet of watercolor canvas with the edges taped down. I don't think the wrinkles show in the photo, but not being stretched the cotton canvas did wrinkle, significantly more than the paper, so I will probably go back to paper until... Well, that's a good question. The store that I bought my hardboard at is now only two blocks away from our new house, but in these pandemic days, my wife doesn't like that I go to the grocery store once a week in the wee hours of the morning, so that going to get hardboard to paint on... Well, as I said, we'll have to see what the future holds.

Back in the day, I used the watercolor canvas for acrylics painted like watercolors, and would, as you suggest, mount them on hardboard, if I happened to sell one, and I am sure it would work with thicker paint as well. However, for some reason, I liked painting on the watercolor paper better -- it comes with all four sides sealed, so that it stays more or less flat without having to tape it down. Canvas seems more durable, but, well, I'm not likely to paint any masterpieces at this point in my career -- and if I do keep painting, I'll get some hardboard sooner or later... You stay safe as well!
