Okay, here's my piece for the OfficialArtFight secret santa! This is Cillian, he's a witch and a florist apparently, and he was a lot of fun to draw. I decided to give him a bouquet of Australian native flowers – they're so under appreciated, and I thought their dry colours might work nicely with the burnt oranges and greys in Cillian's design. Some of them are real flowers, some of them are just shit I made up to kind of resemble real plants.

Cillian's creator (labyrinth on art fight, heytherereeves on tumblr) has a really cool cartoony style, and it was really interesting trying to translate the character into my own style – or at least, some variation of it. I tried some new things here, like Mucha-inspired spaghetti hair as a way to stylise the spiral the original artist uses to describe the curl of Cillian's hair. It defies physics, but I'm not worried. This also isn't normally how I draw faces, but I think it worked fine for the piece.

That arm looks really cooked though, I have to say, but the sketch underneath more or less works...I think it's because of how the bouquet cuts into the arm that it looks so weird, but really, if my sketch were better we wouldn't be having this problem. I think in the future I'll need to think through the foundations of a drawing a bit better, and make sure the elements all work together properly.

On a brighter note, I do feel like I finally managed to streamline my process pretty well for this one; if I hadn't given myself a billion floral/botanical details to fuss over, I probably could've knocked this out pretty efficiently!
