Well, let this be a statement to the effect that if you ever do write a book you have my permission to use the image of this painting for the cover.
Hey! What's up, been a while, how're things?

That's really good to know, that you're doing well. Montreal looks like such a cool place to be as well, nice! I can totally see you in an art supplies shop as well, also cool. Yeah, wow, enjoy it, savor every second if you can. I'm good thanks, I moved out of the city and into the countryside, which I am really liking, loving all the birds and clouds.
Yeah, still here, but then this is the closest I get to social media, so...
Really good to hear from you, I hope you post more often and stay in touch, let me know what you're up to!

You are so lucky. If I had a car I would definitely live in the country. I love it so much. The smell, the sound of the wind through the leaves... arrrgh!
Do you still paint? For me I have a hard time to stay disciplined at my work. I'm bored easily, I don't why because I love to draw so much...

Yeah, I am, I have a house with a dedicated studio.
Exactly, plus the wildlife and the moon and stars.
I do, but I'm not and haven't for a while now.
I'm making lots of sculptures with an organic resin and doing copper metal work and tattoo design sketches this year...so far no paintings, but when I do I will post.
I can sympathise with that, I guess you get to meet some cool people though and there has to be a pretty good art scene in Montreal?
Are you still doing music?

I think a lot of your work would already work as tattoos, and given that someone has a tattoo of your work already I guess you already are.
Although, yeah, there is a difference when you are consciously thinking about tattoo design.
I guess so, I have been doing it for a while so I have a portfolio full of stuff and tattooed a few things on myself (I know, right, your first thought is "oh my god, tattooing outside of a parlor, they must be so shitty) and have tattooed a few other people...that was a while back, in the city. I learned to tattoo so I could put my work on myself, plus I was always an enthusiast...I actually do have a qualification as a body piercer, incidentally. I mean an actual professional qualification entitling me to insurance and all that. Anyway, I shall stop yapping.
You have any tattoos, I can't remember...or don't know?
Yeah I know, I always found it difficult to find the right musicians to play music with. I agree that the middle ground, where the consistent creativity is, is underrepresented compared to junkies on one side and drama on the other...or both. I would invite you over for a 'jam', that would be cool, but you know, 3249 miles, apparently.

I have three tattoos but it's recent. One of them is a little tribute to Brody Dalle/The Distillers... but next tuesday I'll have two more on the other arm. Can't wait!
Must be weird doing it to yourself... is it?

lien In reply to gabrielleoltra [2018-09-28 11:04:19 +0000 UTC]
Nice. She's cool! What are you getting on your arm next week?
It is, yes. Tattooing takes a lot of concentration and coordination. Add the pain to that and it's a bit like trying to draw something and every time the pencil touches the paper people start flicking your ears or something. Just adds a distraction. That said, you get used to it, kinda.

There's gonna be a snake, and a tribute to another of my bands, The Kills. All the music I listen to from the last eighteen years is very important to me.
What kind of music do you like?
π: 0 β©: 1
gabrielleoltra In reply to lien [2018-10-01 15:28:10 +0000 UTC]
That's a very long list, is this all the music you like? I saw Kate Bush thoughΒ Β love the Kick Inside album
For the tattoo it's like two snakes circling each other, or eating each other. It's not ouroboros but it's the same kind. I have my proper interpretation for it. Like, you are your own vicious circle with all your choices in life and your values, your good and bad sides. I don't know how to explain it in english. It's an image I love since i'm a teenager!

Not all the music I like, just the music that has been logged there.
But it gives you an idea, you know, seeing as you asked.
I am a long time fan of Kate Bush, she's been with me since I was a kid.
My favorite is 'The Ninth Wave', the "B" side of 'Hounds of Love'.
Oh, that sounds cool, I get the meaning as well. Obviously.
So, something like a Caduceus?
Or more like this:
?
Anyway, have fun tomorrow, I hope it goes well!

I have known you for years and you know I have always loved your work. It's not just the work its the title's that help make the work. What you see Just sometimes IS what I see,but I to see as " Much Like Falling " Shard rain falling on dune at dawn. Love it.

I just can't help myself.. I see only blood that sea washes on the shore..
And someone passes by ignoring it, only leaving small white footprints in the sand.
It's like "I saw you drown(but I did nothing)".
Drowning..
Drowning..
Indeed, much like falling.

By the way, why does every painting has "event somenumbers" in their description?
π: 0 β©: 1
lien In reply to cikarda [2012-09-27 08:38:42 +0000 UTC]
Excellent interpretation of the reason behind this work, thank you my friend.
The event numbers: the paintings are either events in their own right, regarding their creation, and/or they are interpretive works based on events that have happened to me in my live.

lien In reply to cikarda [2012-10-22 09:18:12 +0000 UTC]
I started counting about ten years ago, it was because each painting was a story about an event in my life.
This is only with the finished paintings, all the drawing I do and photography/ sketches and studies aren't numbered.

You have a real unique wonderful touch, when using this (your) partiqular style of abstract painting.
I would love to see a lot more of it!
That is not to say that I don't like your other work...
You must have heard the story of the mother who gave her son two ties,
one red and one blue?...if not, I will finish it...)
