Description It’s been a while since I last posted any feather paintings, so here’s a batch of mini feathers (yes, I’m still painting them).

The first depicts a Welsh red kite painted on a woodcock wing feather with two chinchilla cock hackles for backing and wooden beads. This I gave as a gift to Jennifer, a tremendously kind person and fellow artist whom I consider to be a good friend. She has supplied me with many beautiful and rare feathers (including the ones seen here) that would otherwise be very hard for me to get hold of. This was my thank you present to her, for she mentioned how much she loves red kites.
The second depicts a fossa painted (once again) on a woodcock wing feather with a cream and cinnamon hackle backing and wooden beads. This particular feather was commissioned by the wonderful Cindy (Lennan) and I was very happy for the chance to paint such an unusual animal as the subject for a feather, as I had never attempted a fossa before.
And lastly, the third feather is the most recently created (I was feeling inspired after watching Dances With Wolves, and this was the inevitable result), depicting an American paint horse on a woodcock (ok, so I’m in love with these feathers) wing feather with a rare copper pheasant rump feather backing and imitation heishi beads. He’s quite a pretty one, and I have been considering offering him up at auction. Would anyone here be interested in him if I did?

Well, that’s everything. All that’s left to say now is ‘woodcock feathers rule!’

Well, I have the ability to shrink myself down to about and inch, and... that helps a lot!

Ha ha, ok, so please excuse my humour. I just have keen eyes for small detail is all.

Ha ha, thank you, and that one's a 'fossa'. It's a marsupial that looks rather like a big brownish cat.

Lol, I know what you mean. Often, after looking at other people's work, I feel like that too. You'll get into feather painting again soon, I'm sure.

I was at this past convention, looking around the art show, then thinking about your feathers.. and you should ship them to a con (or me?) and put them in one of the art shows! I bet they would bring in some good money since they are so unique.

Leopreston In reply to whitewolf [2007-02-21 22:02:24 +0000 UTC]

You know Dai, I would love to do that, but I just wouldn't know where to start! I have considered it before, but just don't know how to go about it. Have you ever done that before? (Ah, that's probably a silly question). Is it quite hard?

whitewolf In reply to Leopreston [2007-02-25 06:22:57 +0000 UTC]

Well first off you need to reserve yourself a panel in an art show.. I say go for Anthrocon, since it's the biggest con and they still have space left! ([link] ) It's free, and they just take out 10 or 15% of whatever you make. And your work is sold by bidding.. so something can easily go for lots if there are two people who really want it.

When you get and fill out the form for it, you will need to fill out who your manager will be since you won't be attending (I can do it, since I always have my own stuff to put in the show too ^.^) . And I'd be responsible for setting up your stuff and taking down what doesn't sell. Hell, while you're at it, even include some artwork.. your stuff is so a-friggen-mazing!

Anyhow.. so there would be this pegboard panel with your name at the top and your stuff hanging below it. Payment is mailed to you after the con is over, usually a month or two. It is SO worth it, even if nothing sells, as it gets you loads of recognition. If you even have business cards, send some of them too, they can be put up with your stuff.

Oh, yeah! I looked at this yesterday, but I didn't get to comment on it. Anyway, um, I love feather paintings! I've never attempted them myself, because they look like they take much concentration.

The results of yours are so beautiful! My favorite is the one with the kite.
Mainly because I loveth birds of prey.

Leopreston In reply to SailingBreezes [2007-02-28 22:45:14 +0000 UTC]

It all depends on how you feel at the time which determines if the task will be hard or not. Try it and I bet you'll have fun!

D'aww, they're as gorgeous as ever! Well done yet again you!

I' definately be interested in the pinto pony - he's the one that first caught my eye
Funnily enough I watched Dances with Wolves for the umpteenth time recently too, it's my favourite film but the ending and Cisco and Two Sock's fates make me cry...

Leopreston In reply to buraqina [2007-02-21 17:45:49 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you, as always.

I'm going to have to wait until I can get some batteries for my camera to list the pinto, so it's going to be a while yet. Anyway, it'd just be interesting to see where he ends up in the end.

Btw, Those parts in Dances With Wolves make me sob too. *Cries* I have to tell myself that it's just a film afterall.

You're very welcome

I see, my camera conked out on me today too. Annoying when it happens, but thank god for rechargable batteries! I hope you'll post in your journal when you list it, don't want to miss out on that little beauty!

Last of the Mohicans is another terrible one for making me sob...both because of the final scenes, and because I know I can't have Uncas!
