yeah i forgot about those 3rd parties
btw does anything else ever happen in that top panel, except the systray, the clock, and the start button (aka "applications")? i didn't pay attention when i tested it.

That panel is uneditable I wish I could edit the menu entries with an right click on Apps.

yeah in plain gnome shell you can't edit the panel either, but i seem to remember it shows an icon and a dropdown menu for the active window

well i'm no expert - but i think they use their own window manager? Otherwise maybe gnome tweak tool..

Yeah, it's using Gala as WM. Changing the borders with gnome-tweak-tool doesn't work either Not that I don't like the default look but why...?

I have found a solution. In dconf-tools: org>panntheon>desktop>gala>appearance>theme
Now I can change the theme

i think the reason they keep this option i think it's fair to say hidden is so everybody would use the same theme
you know like in the army, everyone wears the same clothes
same thing gnome shell and unity...

Hmm, no dropdown menu in the panel But plank has right-click menu for the launchers.

Nah... you can only drop and drag your favorite apps there to lock them to the dock.
