Description A dark and rainy walk led to this little gem hidden in a park not too far from the hustle and bustle of the city. It made for a nice short Sunday outing. Β

Hey LeeAnne, great shot! I havent been around much but I'm still watching, and a bit jealous of your new (not so new anymore) location. Hope its all going well out there!

Thanks, Matt! It's still pretty surreal being around all these mountains all the time and being able to just drive to the coast for a day. We camped on the beach last weekend. Definitely many more options for outdoor recreation than back home, that's for sure. Things are going very well, thanks. Finally settled into a routine with my job and commute, so that's helped a lot! Hope all is well with you too.

Yea I can imagine. And I am a little bit jealous. I think maybe if I was surrounded by more beautiful scenery (and didnt have to drive hours every time to get where I wanted) I would probably be out shooting more.

But things are going well, switched jobs somewhat recently (and making a lot more money) and have been working to finish off my remaining classes to get my degree. Which has unfortunately eaten a good portion of my free time. But school ends in a month, then hopefully back to taking photos.

I'm out way more often than I have been in past winters in WV, but it's been kind of an odd winter here this year. There's very little snowpack in the mountains, so it's messed with a lot of the streams and rivers. The streams will flood from all the rains, and there's really nowhere to go to photograph snowy scenes. I'm hoping something changes, or else the water will dry up quickly this summer. :/

That's cool, congrats on the new job! I know school can be a hassle, but it'll be worth it when you're finished, especially if you get an even better job!

Mashuto In reply to LAlight [2015-02-10 21:43:25 +0000 UTC]

That does sound a bit odd about the weather. We haven't gotten much snow here, but I always struggle with snowy landscapes anyways (at least, finding landscapes I can reach in the snow).

Hopefully there will be enough rain or snow that even if its light, you will still have some flow in the spring after the leaves start coming back on the trees.

And yes, 4 more weeks of school until I get my degree. Then freedom. Then a week later, Iceland, then hopefully lots and lots of free weekends to go take photos in and around Shenandoah NP and in WV. Who knows, I may even head to the coast or into DC too. As for a job, well, would be nice to be making even more, but I just started at this one less than 4 months ago after only being at my last job for less than 8 months... but I know next time I go to look, I should be able to get something even better.

LAlight In reply to TripleHearts [2015-01-28 04:45:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Sheila!
The lens I used on this one was actually a pretty mid-level Sigma 10-22mm wide angle. Kind of a pain sometimes with all the distortion, but I do so enjoy the results most of the time!Β

TripleHearts In reply to LAlight [2015-01-28 16:04:18 +0000 UTC]

well, it seems to grant you some pretty fabulous shots time after time! I find that I have a relationship with each one of my lenses. Β They each treat me differently and thus I have to adapt and give them the care they need in order for the shot to turn out just as I invision it. One needs more light, and one needs less, One behaves better on a tripod, etc. Β they seem to be all like my children and I'm just trying to get them to behave!

Love it!Β  Out of curiosity, did you have a polarizing filter on?Β  I've been trying to get a shot like this for a while now, but it always feels like something is missing.Β  I can't figure out what it is.Β  I don't use filters so I thought that might be part of it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LAlight In reply to drewb-photography [2015-01-24 22:16:12 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely, yes. A polarizing filter is a must for this kind of shot. Otherwise, you get reflections off the rocks, the foliage, and the water. So you end up not being able to see all the rocks under the water and the leaves just look white in places. The polarizing filter will also make the color a little richer too. But you should buy a good one. It's one of those things where you get what you pay for!Β

videodude1961 [2015-01-24 21:31:51 +0000 UTC]

Nice!Β  The water is just the right amount of soft (for me anyway), the green of the moss and ferns and trees is just right, the touches of orange gives it just a little warmth, and finally those boulders and the stump give it character.
