Description

This is a spot that Addam and I keep revisiting every chance we can. It was the first waterfall I saw up close and personal in Washington, and it quickly became one of my favorites not only for sentimental reasons, but also because of the quiet way it always takes my breath away.

I remember the first time I came here, I couldn't even bring myself to take photos at first. Before I even got my camera out, I laid down on a huge, mossy tree that had long ago fallen across the creek downstream. I recall lying there staring up at the cedar trees, listening to the rush of the waterfall, the trickle as the creek continued downstream, taking it all in. I felt like this place, this gateway to the North Cascades, had claimed me.

Surrounded by huge cedars and very unstable rock cliffs, this hidden gem always makes me a little fearful, but we can't help but return time and time again. Due to the instability of the rock and the volatile weather that this area of the mountains typically sees, we are always treated to a different version of the waterfall each time we come back. Still beautiful, regardless of what has come to pass during our absence, it never disappoints.
