From the anime Psycho Pass, the weapon of choice: the Dominator, in its Destroy Decomposer mode.

The gun was built with 1.5mm sheet acrylic, 6mm acrylic rods, 4mm acrylic rods 0.7mm sheet styrene, and polyester body filler. I first drew a blueprint for the gun, then used the blueprint to plan out the build. The gun was laser-cut out in layers using sheet acrylic and styrene. Most of the details achieved here would probably not have been possible by hand due to its small scale. Manual tools would not be able to reach most of these points, nor would it have the precision to. The numbers and lettering were laser cut as well, though at a lower power, so that it made an etching instead of a clean cut.

The pieces were then glued together with acrylic glue. Beveled or curved areas were made by covering the area with body filler and sanding it down. After the individual pieces were fully layered, they were painted in acrylic black for the base colour. I then did an enamel wash on the respective areas: silver for numbers and letterings, and a mix of silver, blue, and green for the 'lighted' areas. After painting, the pieces were attached to each other with a variety of 4mm and 6mm acrylic rods with cyanoacrylate glue (aka superglue), and bent using a heat gun wherever necessary. Acrylic rods were also used to make the gold railing at the front of the gun. Finally, the fully assembled gun was sprayed with a few coats of clear lacquer.

This project was completed in the space of four months, or five months if you round off the start and end. I worked on it alongside a few other projects, as well as coping with my regular school workload. Overall, I think I'm pretty satisfied with the timeframe. Considering that my previous major project took almost a year to complete, this was quite an improvement. The use of laser cutting technology helped significantly to reduce the time spent cutting.
