Description Done for the challenge by

Materials:

Ball-point pen, sepia and sanguine pencils, coloured pencils, charcoal, and pastel on A4 paper.

Description:

This drawing was inspired by a lot of songs, but mostly the introduction to nile's "User Maat Re".

You should notice some patterns using only sepia colours, one made of round lines and the other of straight ones, the first being somewhat more typical in Arabic cultures, and the latter traditional of the pre-colonization Mesoamerican tribes. These patterns symbolize the heat in existence in either locale, a heat which can be felt just by listening to most instrumentals of nile's music.

Just like the initial acoustic part of "User Maat Re" is simply an introduction, so is this picture representing the mere beginning of the music filling my veins.

The texture of the paper also allowed me to portray a sand-like look in the background, which is truly the embodiment of nile's music - the burning sands.

The blue in the picture represents the little amount of water there is in the desert, for it exists only in oasis's which are soon populated and dried up again. Under my arm is the actual river Nile, represented as a force that moves my arm, and the arms of so many before it, to play the music of the desert.

I have also added the classical notation of the song's introduction, which should be fairly accurate as I spent some time making it myself, seeing as no other felt truly right to my ears. If you're a musician, you just might find this useful. Also important to note, the final notes begin to germinate, which you will understand why once you play this yourself, for those final notes simply have a great feel to them.
