My first month giving a shot to the equinexchange art group, and I get assigned...!!
How cool is that? *huge grin*
So, this is shekeira's Ki'rin "Khura'hjen" for May's equinexchange. I love this guy; I admit, bay is my personal favorite color on horses, so I had great fun coloring him in. Plus, this fellow has such a neat design - the gold of his scales and serrated horn really accent the character, and the grey of his mane and tail stand out against that bay so nicely.
"Khurajen" belongs to *shekeira fully, from the tip of his horn to his elegant tail.

Girl, you've breathed such life into this relatively-underdeveloped character of mine. I love the little details you've thrown in: the grey chestnut, the dappling, the intermixing of bay, white and grey in that luscious (hey, there's no other word!) tail you've given him. He's got that big, bulky look, but retains an element of swiftness. ... Not to mention the winter coat!

You are so, so welcome. He was just so much fun to draw, and I loved being able to play with that bay coat of his.
I had a hard time really coming up with a background - I tried two or three, but it got too busy -- so when I started doing this one, it just all came together right.

You know, I can be such a brick sometimes. It took me reading your comments on the EAX LJ three times to realize that it wasn't a snowy plain that Khura was standing on, but clouds! And to throw another brick at my head, I didn't see Morris. I deserve an ethereal swipe, right now, right on my leg.
No, I don't mind it at all ... really, it makes this even more precious. And from the heart, too. I've purchased some more frames, and that's where this one is going.

I admit it, I just love coloring/sketching fur. I love the textures and the depth you get by adding different colors; it's fun to look at a horse and realize just how many colors are in their coats.
(And I'm having a blast on the exchange. It's just so much fun taking a crack at other characters, especially because they're all so neat and different!)

Aw, thanks... I thought his nose looked pretty pettable myself. And I do so adore a good bay. I wanted a bay horse. I said, "I'm going to get a bay horse..."
... I have Captain, aka "Mr. Gallons of White-N-Brite." Oh well, maybe my second horse will be bay...

It's funny, I've never thought of myself as having a drawing style... I mean, I can look at other people and see one, but I always feel like I'm all over the place in terms of how I draw... if that makes sense?

Ha. I feel the same way about my haphazard stuff. But no, you really do have a style, and it's just really alive in this pic. You do have a very distinct drawing 'voice'.
Yeah, I always liked bays, and was always a little prejudiced about chestnuts and Quarterhorses. Who was the horse of my life? A chestnut QH. Ah well. When I'm rich and famous I can get the Freisian I always wanted.
