But they also seem to use pretty casual language too. Like in Sonic Rush Blaze's thoughts are a bit more casual than her dramatic speeches ("whoa... she's pretty friendly")

As you can see, Silver sees nothing wrong with picking on little kids, even when they are the favorite son of the koopa king

Kinda hard to understand his personality sometimes, you know. One moment he's decent guy hang out with, the next he starts acting like a prick.

It seems his default response is to be a prick to people he doesn't know, but as people prove themselves to be trustworthy or a potential ally he behaves more decently to them. He does this with Espio in Sonic Rivals 2 and over the course of a few games warms up to Sonic & friends, for example.
He's easily irritated/frustrated by things getting in his way, he'd be annoyed by sonic's cavalier attitude in a tense "hurrr fate of the world hangs in the balance" situation. But when they're just hanging out in a more relaxed situation like Sonic Colors he's pretty friendly and cheerful.
He has a nasty temper and seems to be easily insulted/enraged to the point of attacking people, though, so if you hit the wrong button he'll see it as a challenge and snap back to being a prick in seconds. He has some respect-related "rules" that may not sync up with everyone else's, like "don't you dare turn your back on me," so he seems especially insulted by someone trying to walk away when he's trying to fight them, etc.. Additionally he appears to think fighting is fun, period, so it's probably not hard at all to get him to explode. He also is really competitive, he even has shades of "heh i'm from the future look at you and your primitive society lol" going on. So basically he'll be pleasant until something hits his switch - the spirit of competition or a perceived insult or an injustice or whatever - and suddenly he snaps back to being a smug prick towards whatever set him off, or something like that

I never played the Wii versions of any Olympics games so this is all new to me. Though I must say those pictures of Silver look quite inspiring. I might draw him again soon. Yes indeed.
Also apparently Silver thinks he's a man and is doubting intelligence of little kids. I wonder how he didn't get punched by both Tails and Shadow in that one cutscene.

I think this is part of that whole "gets insecure" thing, he's pretty young and naive but he tries to act older than he is, and more mature
he picks fights over insults and talks down to little kids as a childish way of asserting his dominance or something, like HEH STUPID KIDS, I'M NOT A KID, HEH
He does seem to think he's a man though, so he's got to act like a man!! and he over-does it sometimes lol
Shadow had to actually tell Silver to calm down a scene earlier
they chased down and beat up Jet, Jet was like "I'll take you both on, heh" to Shadow and Silver
which pissed Silver off so he got in Jet's face like "WHAT???"
Shadow's like "Cool it, Silver"
"But Shadow--! Tch, fine." (slowly backs off)
They were apparently hanging out together beforehand, too. I get the feeling they're friends or something. (or even more likely Silver follows him around like a puppy because he thinks Shadow's cool *-*)
YES THEY DO INDEED HAVE COLOR COORDINATED HORSES but Shadow's isn't as cool as that unfortunately
Shadow has a dark gray horse with black mane and tail (and red eyes I think), Sonic has a white horse with blue-gray mane and tail, Tails has a yellow horse with brown mane and tail, Knuckles has a dark brown horse with reddish mane and tail, Vector has a brown horse with greenish-blonde mane and tail
I think amy has a brown and blonde horse or something, Eggman has a black horse similar to Shadow's
Silver has a silver horse with CYAN mane and tail, Blaze has a pure white horse with LAVENDER mane and tail
so you see they are the specialest snowflakes with magical custom-made horses or something lol
all the tack is color-coordinated too which looks pretty cool

I suspected Silver is like this. I never quite delved into complex personality analysis with him as I did with Shads, but something told me he's an insecure muddaflucker. I don't know why, as there is barely ANY society left in the "Iblis times", but apparently someone was still there to antagonize and put down the kid. Mean shits.
It does give him some uniqueness, though. I hope he grows out of it though xD When kids try to act like adults they just look even more childish cause they fail at it miserably. It takes some courage, diligence and experience for a child to act like an adult. And Silver doesn't seem to have much in the way of those. It seems someone else had the control of the pack and always cared for him, so he became a little spoiled. I guess Blaze was always the leader then. She is quite mature.
I guess Silver and Shads figured out they were related, but Shads told him to keep quiet about that, but Silver still follows him around and considers him somewhat of a father figure. And Shads has a case of Vegeta syndrome where he doesn't really accept this weirdo as his descendant, but is very slowly warming up to him xD And probably keeps him away from Sonic's bad influence and slaps him occasionally for being a fool xD
And of course Silv thinks Shads is cool xD That's what he wants to be, this confident strong badass, so he probably always copies him and stuff xD
And also joins Charmy in fanboying fits. |D

If you think about what actually happens in 06, Blaze isn't really the leader at all. Silver is actually the one making all the decisions and coming to all the conclusions. Blaze is just kind of along for the ride, for the most part. Like when Silver asks if it's the right thing to do to kill the Iblis Trigger, she's basically like "I dunno but we're already here so"
He's the one that questions Mephiles' intentions, he's the one who comes up with all the plans, Blaze just nods and tells him where Iblis is, he strikes all the finishing blows, he's basically pulling all the weight. Silver thinks he needs her, but she doesn't actually help him all that much, besides with fighting. So at the end, when he's like "I wouldn't know what to do without you!" she goes "You're so naive" because he doesn't realize how capable he really is or something, which makes her think of all the other times she's said that... she always liked his idealism and forthrightness. She probably felt pretty useless just trailing behind him the whole time and wanted to do something important to help him for once, hence the sacrifice.
But Silver thinks she was the leader and he was the sidekick, when in reality she was following him.
So based on this self-doubt and his themesong, I'd say Silver made a horrible mistake at some point in the past and feels guilty about it, so he doesn't trust his own judgement, and has very little faith in himself in general.
Absolution means "forgiveness for sins" so... based on the lyrics: he froze up from fear and instead of helping could only watch as someone close to him died, he feels terrible and has recurring nightmares about it... after a while he was sort of able to get over it. He probably swore he'd never let fear stop him again or something, blah blah blah typical anime protagonist, kill all the titans etc
Then the same thing happens with Blaze, he's unable to save her, opens the wound all over again. I think the event referred to in his themesong must have happened before the Blaze incident because he was already insecure when he met her, plus the lyrics mention saving a life, but Blaze isn't dead.
So I think that's where the insecurity comes from: a serious personal failure. He seems uncomfortable with praise and stuff, like he feels he doesn't deserve it, and even though he's an optimist he doesn't really think he can do much, but he tries his best anyway and keeps going, driven by his sense of justice or whatever. He's very brave and pertinacious, but not very experienced or self-aware. Plus there's not many people around in the future so of course he has no manners or sense of social grace, he just gets right to the point and says what's on his mind, if you don't like it, tough, and so on.
He always seems to expect a fight, which is probably where the cocky attitude comes from. In Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 he's always talking down to everyone and ticking people off... when he demands something from Knuckles and Knux just hands it over like "ok," Silver's stunned speechless for a second
So society in the future is probably pretty mean and cutthroat since resources are limited and only the strong can survive blaw blaw blaw, so he kinda has to be tough to even be alive in the first place... especially when he's always fighting Iblis, mostly without help. He probably hides his feelings too because it would reveal weakness, and he thinks nobody would care, his problems don't matter anyway, etc
So he acts confident and aggressive because if he wasn't confident he'd be marked as weak and targeted. If you walk into a place with enough confidence people tend to leave you alone, after all. He never seems to ask for help (which would be weakness as well), and he doesn't seem to apologize for anything either. Not that he doesn't feel regret, but he lets his actions speak for him instead. He's pretty sensitive and unsure but tries hard to be the cool confident badass like you said, to compensate

Exactly, lots of teenagers are like this... Silver isn't that unusual.
Silver doesn't just admire Shadow, he seems to gravitate towards serious people in general... like he admires certain traits and so he likes to hang out with people that show these traits. From Silver's perspective I don't know if he's entirely aware of Shadow's past and the reason why Shadow is the way he is, he just sees Shadow the cool tight-lipped badass and that's basically the epitome of who he wants to be.
I feel like a more mature Silver would stop trying so hard to "act" badass and would lighten up a little as a result to where he seems more relaxed, but not to the point of being like Sonic. Seems like he should be similar to both Shadow and Sonic and yet his own person as well.
So chill and understanding but quirky seems pretty much perfect lol
