Thank you for taking the time to comment! I'm so glad you liked it... but, if I can ask, what do you mean by choosing a "softer" color? A little more detail in that regard, I think, could help me know what direction to move in there.
Thank you, again -- I really appreciate knowing what worked (and didn't) for you!

Hi there from ProjectComment
This picture immediately caught my attention, and when I found out it's you who is the artist, I decided to drop a critique - as a thank you for taking the time to write a critique on a piece of mine this week! Okay, let's get started, shall we?
As I've said, this picture caught my eye right away, which usually is an indicator for quality. The facial anatomy is realistic, and I like the soft distribution of the hues of her skin. The hair also looks quite real and matches your style. The shades are generally well-placed and give the head a sense of three-dimensionality. The highlights on her face and shoulder are very nicely balanced and round off the whole picture just perfectly. I also appreciate the delicate outlines. Sometimes outlines can be distracting, but this is not the case here. There's hardly anything that I could really criticize! The green overlay on her eyes is a deliberate choice, but I would tone the green on the "white of her eyes" a tad down (I've read that you are color-blind, so this might be a bit difficult). Since the eyes are the main attractor for potraits in general, you also might take care with additional details and push it towards enhanced realism even a bit more. For example, there's a thin line of liquid between the edge of the eyelid and the eye. You can represent this with an ever so slightly linear highlight. But this being said, you should only consider this is if you want to go to the next level of realism.
Anyway, that's it for today! Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for the comment -- especially the bit about the eyelid highlight. I'll have to give that a try the next time I do a close up, just to see if I can pull it off. (I'm not necessarily aiming for realism, in fact I generally go for a comic-book style, but... my stuff seems to lean that way anyhow.)
Thank you again for taking the time to point out what you liked about this -- it really helps, and I really appreciate it.

even if you're colorblind, this is a lovely picture of Starfire. I give it 10 Stars.

They're both pretty great -- I originally planned to draw the two of them together, but didn't have the time.

Wow!!! Man, I don't know what art wheaties you're eating, but dang! This is unreal! I love this so much! She's gorgeous, elegant, just wow! And I immediately see all these wonderfully intricate details in the shading... especially on the shoulder/arm and back areas ... just brilliant work. And you know those kinds of details really stand out to me when I look at other people's work. I'm just blown away! Now, mix in that kind of detail with the the way you are able to capture pure feminine beauty - well, it's like emotion captured in digital, you know? I keep coming back to it and looking. Kevin, amazing, amazing work!!!

Thank you so much, Emmit. I think all of that is why I love doing headshots and half-bodies -- it gives you a chance to really see the character like that (and frankly takes a lot less time because no hands, if we're being honest). I'm glad she caught your eye, though, because there's always a bit of self-doubt in regard to whether I'm getting repetitive in what I draw. (I don't know if that's a thing everyone faces... I love drawing what I draw, but I always picture other people thinking, "Man, another headshot? Why not try impressionistic landscapes for once?")
And I kind of think the good shading on her back and shoulder might have been pure luck -- I don't usually go that deep and dark with them, but I think her skin color let me be a little daring -- I didn't have to worry about it looking burned like Caucasian skintones will when you use the method I use to shade things.
