Description Just another piece of Jean, this time wearing some of Scott's merchandise. Getting the lighting right for this one was a bit tricky, especially since it didn't really cat any shadows in the image I based it on. But hopefully it turned out alright.

This one was another exercise in consistency, as I tried to get the same representation of Jean as the last time I drew her:

I think I did alright, though her nose might be a little off. I won't pretend that I didn't absolutely love drawing/coloring her hair again (just one of the reasons I opted for her modern look, rather than her look from The Ultimates).

Anyhow, let me know what you think -- any comments, critiques, or tips are welcome and appreciated.

Disclaimer: I’m red-green colorblind. Because of this, it’s difficult for me to tell similar shades/hues of different colors apart, and, therefore, I need to work with very limited palettes when I color pieces. For shading and highlights, I’ll start with a gray base and lighten or darken shades from there, and then add a color overlay (and, for some skin tones, attempt to add a blue overlay to make it less “hot”). I’ve often been told to be bolder in my highlighting and shading, and I’m trying to be so, but… sometimes it still seems pretty tame. I’m just saying this in case you mentioned I need to do that on a previous piece – I’m not ignoring you, and I appreciate the input. It’s just not very easy for me to implement confidently.

Casual, but not trying to be or even look young(er) and/or hip, or any of that in on all the latest trends and all that c***.

And if she wears some Cycpols merchandise like Mary Jane wears Spider-man
merchandise(mainly shirt) that would mean she loves Scott as Mj loves Peter. So why would she toy with his emotion on the count of Logan?

I just refuse to acknowledge the Jean/Logan thing as anything more than Logan being a weirdly obsessed stalker. There is no rendition of it, whether in the comics or movies, that doesn't feel creepy to me.

I refuse to acknowledge the Jean/Logan thing as well, giving the fact that Logan is usually a lone wolf looking for trouble and just plays along with his flirting with her just to make Scott angry with jealousy.

That background was a bit of a nightmare -- I need to start laying them out before I work on the main figure, rather than after.

Kevin, this is stunning! Truly! Not even sure where to start. So I guess, first the outfit. The wrinkles and creases are so well done with this piece! That's usually the hardest part for me, getting those right. But they're spot on!!! The creases of the outer shirt immediately catch your eye - amazing work. But looking closer, what is so impressive to me is the t-shirt underneath... the folds of the fabric, how the logo correctly lays, and how perfectly the shadows on the left side really add to the projection of depth to the entire painting.

The other thing I find so amazing about this are the details in the pants and belt -  the casual way the belt falls in front and the perfect highlighting and shadows that match the angle of the body. And black is so hard to get to look right. This looks so realistic dude! And the pose... such a natural, relaxed position. The angle in which she's turned is so hard to portray. The wrong brush strokes could easily make things look flat or odd. But you nailed it!!!  Finally, the background... out of focus just enough to not only keep the focus on her, but also add perfect sense of space/dimension in the room.

All around fantastic work!

Thank you, sir! I think I benefited from the fact that the design on the t-shirt actually looks more realistic if you mess up a little bit, like how those cheap tees usually start falling apart after a few washes. But part of the fun for me in drawing stuff like that is getting those folds and curves correct. It's not always easy, but I think it does add to the image in the end. I'm glad you like the pants, too -- I had a really hard time leaving them alone the way they are. My mind's eye kept trying to shift them or make her hips bigger, but I had to keep reminding myself it was just the angle and, when shaded, they'd look better. And I think they do.

Maybe some day I'll make more detailed and intricate belt buckles, but... probably not.

Thanks again -- I really appreciate knowing what I got right!
