Hm... actually I don't think I've blabbed it here yet.
I'm now in a relationship with a wonderful guy named Nick, from Belgium. 
I haven't felt this happy in a long long long LONG LONG (unbelievably long) time. My years and years of singledom are finally over. D: Now... he just needs to be at least within 10 foot radius of me, wherever that may be and then I'll be the happiest woman on earth. *sighs and waits* 
So back the the painting for my love, Nick... for Valentines Day. I love you Nick!!
Bit early, but I was too excited to wait a whole month. I've already been working on this for like nearly a month now... two months is more than I can bare!! But I also want opinions on the image brightness/darkness before I go waste money on making test prints. I'm on a laptop ... need I say more? :{It's our characters on a game called Furcadia. His is a squirrel and mine is a cat/kitterwing. But otherwise it's basically just us as animal people. I tried to make the characters look as much like both of us IRL as I could while still having sort of a cartoonish/illustrated look, and I think I did a pretty good job at it... What do you think? xD

Entirely done in PhotoshopCS3 and PainterX. Leafy/grassy background was made from a comination of photos I've taken myself. Searching for stock photos can take forever, so I did some searching through the woods insted. xP I have to say I prefer it. I wish I had a better camera though...
Update: Good grief! This is the most comments I have ever got on any artwork ever! Thanks everyone. I've never gotten a daily deviation here either.

You asked our opinion- for Nick I cannot say anything, but you sure did yourself justice! Great skill and craft was presented, but yet i think the colour scheme was what caught me the most.

Not only congratulations on the DD, but on your love as well. You've done a marvelous job of showing the minor differences in feline and squirrel, while still keeping them human. Furcadia is a great place, and I'm so happy to see some art representing love.

Not meaning to be a critic, because this is far beyond what I'd be able to do, I assure you. That said:
I'd work a little more on the fur texture on your neck/chest. It looks kinda flat and it ought to be a little more messy then that, particularly around the chain of your necklace.
I'd also try to make the sleeve of his arm a little thicker since his arm looks impossibly thin right now.
It sure is a stunning piece though.

Thanks for the tip, but I didn't really want them to look too "fluffy"... I dunno. And actually, the arm is normal thickness. Thats due to the leaves/grass. If I wanted it 100% realistic, I'd have spent a lot longer on it. I'm happy with it.

I suppose it might have to do with the tight piece of cloth he's wearing too, they are generally quite a lot baggier over here. I just think it looks a little like he's anorectic, that all.
But if you're content there is no reason to change anything ^^
It is, after all, a stunning piece of art.

The brightness seems ok on my screen, should be looking great on print.
How did you do the traditional look? I'm guessing it's the slight texture overlay, but I'm wondering if there are any other techniques involved.

Very very very small size brushes(1 pixel to 5 pixels size), with a lot of textures added and then a canvas texture as well.
