okay... having gone through your gallery and seeing you like advanced critique I'm coming back to this one. I've been studying it and trying to figure out how the different bits relate to each other. you have some really lovely colors here--I like that mottled periwinkle blue in the background and the desaturated pinks, peaches and purples, some of which are mirrored in the skin tones. but I can't help but feel that the colors you used to shade the dress really slaughtered that lovely balance. they're very grey, even a little brown, and don't relate to the background at all; the dress sort of feels like a cut-out floating on a sea of colors and sucking the life out of them. it's too bad--the design of the dress/slip is quite nice and the folds well-rendered.
personally, I find that using greys tinted with those colors in the background, or, even better, complimentary colors, is a much, MUCH more unifying technique.
that said, I'm still trying to figure out how I feel this texture overload pulls itself off. I think the purple word-filled border kind of pushes it over the edge, if only for the words. little words + stylized sakura blossoms + origami woodblock pattern + ripped up blue papers = TOO MUCH. you seem to rely on dumping textures into a background for filler.
in addition, you have a wonderful whimsy in this pose, but some of the anatomy makes me cringe. her forearms are either too short or her elbows too low--I'm not sure. her hands are definitely too tiny.
on the whole it's certainly an interesting image.

Ahh, the folds in the dress are lovely! I like how realistic and full of movement they look, and her face/freckles are so pretty/cute. The skin tones are lovely as well - I like the purple and pink together~!

Hey there. I know I know, I haven't left you any critiques/comments in ages. I haven't actually "art"ed in in long time either. Anyhoo, enough about me. Moving on to the pic...
Very interesting background. I didn't notice all the words back there until a second look. Nice use. The overall colors are very pleasing to the eye. I like how the colors have a soft tone, but the lines have a somewhat rough feel to them. The combination works out very nicely. Keep up the good work there!

That dress is awe-inspiring! It's got so much detail put into it~! The frills and wrinkles look so realistic. Her freckles really give her some personality; I don't see many characters with freckles, so it makes her stand out as an individual. Her hairdo is adorable, too!

Thanks! I liked how it came out, too... it was nice to just sit down and draw a single piece cause I've been doing so many pannels and pages lately!

Looks excellent! You really make good use of the print paper texture. The freckles are great and I like the transition in colour of her hairline. Using the newsprint for a frame is a nice touch.

Her hair wasn't neccessarily supposed to change colours :0 hehe. I use those newsprint frames a lot, somehow...

I really like what you've been doing with backgrounds and borders lately. This is no exception-- the floral background goes really well with the retro theme, and I especially like the border of miscellaneous text.
Pea looks really cute, too. ^^ I love her freckles! The lines of her dress and her hair also look really good. As far as concrit goes...hmm...I do agree that her hands look a little strange, and her toes look a bit blunt even for ballet shoes. Other than that, though, it looks great. ^^
