Description
On November 6th, 1730, Frederick saw a scaffold being risen in front of his cell - he thought his father, the Soldier-King, would execute him like tsar Peter once killed his son Alexei. But instead, he saw his friend and maybe lover Hans Hermann von Katte, a young officer, being brought to the scaffold and beheaded as a traitor, accused of plotting against the Crown - as the two of them intended to flee to Great Britain...***

Frit'z childhood was so sad... but he still managed to go on and became Prussia's greatest King ever...

Fritz did not actually cry. Instead he fainted and hallucinated for 2 days in his prison cell. Also because Katte was executed in such a manner- he was not allowed a propper grave.

Well, it's sure that he didn't like women and preferred men's company. But back then having a gay king was quite unacceptable for the Prussian Court, so they said that his lack of offspring wasn't because he'd rather have a man in his bed than laying a hand on his wife, but because he was impotent. But nowadays it seems that his homosexuality doesn't make any doubt anymore~

I've decided to make to enter Fritz in the Edelbergweiss' story in this period. He's just a little boy, a curious little boy who had never seen his father (Frederick William was took in a gulag the day before the birth of Fritz, or Freddie!).
Katte is still alive, and another weird guy complete the trio: a Gilbert lookalike called Bertrand, the body guard of Prince.

I do a panel at conventions on history in Hetalia (and also wrote the history notes on the Funimation DVD and for Tokyopop). I often show a video I put together of Fritz clips which includes this picture , of Katte being taken to be executed beneath Frederick's prison window. Supposedly Frederick is supposed to have said, "My dear Katte, a thousand apologies", to which Katte replied, "My prince, there is nothing to apologize for!"
I often joke in the panel that one could take this picture, add bigger eyes and some sparkles, and you'd have a doujinshi right there...
