Description Cry silently my dear, or the wolf will hear you ...

I wanted to draw this for July 16th but somehow I forgot ... I have more than a month of laaaaaaate

It was the 69th memorial day of the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup, during which 13 152 Parisian Jews were arrested in two days time. Only 25 adults and a few children came back alive.
This day was also chosen as the national day to commemorate all the victims of antisemitic and racist crimes.

It wasn't the only roundup that happened in France during WWII, but it was the biggest, and a lot of stories were written about it, some by people who escaped the roundup thanks to the Resistance or the lack of zealous of some policemen, but also by people who were children at this time, and had to flee without their parents and families because it was too late ...

I read one of this story in class four years ago, and seriously it made me cry ;_;

When the policemen arrived to arrest them, the mother said that she wanted to brush her daughter's hair a last time before going. Then one of the two men looked at the girl, diverted his eyes, and told her in a low voice to go to the shop to buy a comb. The other man didn't say anything, but he knew what was happening, and he knew that if they were caught they would have a lot of problems.
But still, when the girl passed the door, biting her lips not to cry, he didn't make a gesture. And they all knew that in a few weeks, maybe a few days, this girl would become an orphan.
And after a few minutes, the mother followed the policemen to join with the other arrested Jews on their way to death...

It was just so horrible ... and I think the Resisters must have felt so helpless then ... T^T

Vichy!France and Resistance!France were both "France". And thus, France has to live with the shame of the first and the glory of the second, and never forget the ones he sent to death and the ones he saved...

OHMIGOSH I KNOW ABOUT THE VEL'D'HIV! Sorry, it's just that I am such a total n00b when it comes to French history that when I see something I actually recognize, I get all hyper and I'm like YAY!

And this reminds me of a fanfiction that I read... and I know you read it too, because you commented on it...

Kitshunette In reply to Kouglov [2011-08-21 11:12:51 +0000 UTC]

Kouglov In reply to Kitshunette [2011-08-21 12:34:37 +0000 UTC]
