Description
Here's "Illusory" - measuring 14" x 18", painted with acrylic and watercolor, and will be available with Gallery 1988 's annual "Crazy 4 Cult" show this friday in their pop-up NYC space! This piece, of course, is inspired by the brilliant film "Pan's Labyrinth" written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. I've wanted to get this out of my system for 7 years now. Whew!For anyone interested in purchasing the original piece, please contact the gallery directly via gallery1988west(at)gmail.com. I've gotten a lot of print requests for this, and as long as the original sells, I'll make prints available in my shop.
This was such a fun and challenging piece to do, as it's only my third time working with acrylic washes, but I'm definitely hooked on the process and look forward to incorporating the technique more with my work as I build up the illustration side of my portfolio.

Beautiful piece! Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies. I never cease to get a chill of inspiration when I watch it. I think you captured the ethereal darkness of that movie quite well in this. Best of luck with the sale of the original!
Randomly, how are you liking storenvy? I was thinking of moving my prints and originals from Etsy onto there since 2D art doesn't seems to sell so sporadically there. I like the idea of no listing fees either. It looks pretty customizable too.

Thanks! And yeah, I really like storenvy, actually. Your storefront is completely customizable and they have a marketplace main page like etsy does, so you're getting a lot of the same benefits there. It's less well known, though, but probably doesn't make much of a difference since people go to etsy for crafts and handmade items, not art. They're a very small team, though, and occasionally there are glitches and downtime that get pretty irritating, but that's probably why it's free for now (their only plan for revenue from stores is to take a small percentage from sales generated from their marketplace, but not your home storefront). I say go for it!

fantastic job! you really captures the Faun's face, and one of my favorite moments in the movie (when she enters the tree, and all those little glowing bits of stuff are floating through the air). The placement of the hair/vines is interesting as well, considering the shape of the opening... one crit, if I may, would be to darken the background outside of the main focus, behind the faun & such. Dark, yet saturated, maybe a deep purple-wood hue. Again, great work! love it!
