Description Bring in the boy dragons! Since the first few QFTQ characters I introduced were all female, I thought it would be a good time to introduce a few of my male dragon characters and the concept of sexual dimorphism in the story. For starters, in a lot of dragon-centered stories, dragon culture is oftentimes matriarchal, and it's not uncommon to see groups of dragons being controlled by a dominant queen. In Quest for the Queen, I take this concept a bit farther by showing how female dragons give off a powerful life energy that when combined with the Stone of Reason, has the power to keep the minds of all dragons in the world in check and free of becoming feral. Male dragons are able to give off this energy as well, but unfortunately due to evolution and genetics (in the same way that males typically have slightly shorter lifespans), their energy is unable to reach all the way around the world to influence the dragons, even when combined with the Stone. This is why the dragons are more likely to be overseen by a Queen rather than a King.

In addition to this, male dragons are often physically smaller and bulkier than female dragons, and often appear more drab in coloration. Male Oigchaits for example, are slightly smaller than females, with a slightly shorter snout, shorter ears, and much more muted colors, with dark violet/grayish wings compared to the lighter purple wings sported by females. Because of their smaller size, male dragons are more likely to stick together in groups than the females, who are often strong enough to handle themselves alone (unless the situation is dire, as it is in the story). This whole concept of size difference is based on real life examples of most female reptiles being bigger than males in adulthood.

With all that sciency mambo-jambo out of the way, here is Nivek! He is Ailis's love interest in the story, and if you've looked through my other deviations, it's not too hard to see who he's based off of. Nivek is actually a rare specimen of Oigchait that was born with dark-colored fur instead of the usual white. Nature tends to select against Oigchaits that are born this way, since they rely on their white fur to help them blend in with the snow when hunting prey. Because of this, Nivek has had to go through life inventing unconventional ways of catching food, such as hiding underneath the snow in ambush and teaching himself how to swim. His success in life isn't without help though, as he is aided by his companion Clavixcor (whom I shall introduce later~), who travels with him in exchange for protection. He meets Ailis when he startles her by popping out of the snow mid-hunt. While Ailis is at first awkward around him due to growing up alone, she eventually warms up to him as he recurs throughout the journey and the two eventually become mates.Β

Nivek and Quest for the Queen are both mine

More to come soon! :3

Thank you very much! I'm glad it makes him stand out, since that's the point of his character. It's good to know his design is working!
