Description I personally think children shouldn't hear swearing until they get to be a certain age (like start around 9-11 ) and if you support this then awesome, if you're against? i don't care for your opinion C:

Children are blank slates and if you want them to grow up the right way cussing around them should NOT be an option. Remember; virgin ears >>

I will actually make up other words to say around a child for instance: instead of "fuck", flick(i actually use "flog" or "frig") and substitute "shit" with Sugar Hunni Ice Tea (you're still saying the same thing just longer :])

I watch Leafy/other crude youtubers who swear a lot. I, personally, still don't swear.

I think there's a huge gap between what I watch and what I say, but some kids might not do it the same way.

To the people who say "can't handle swearing get off the internet" doesn't work, you annoying pricks. It's like saying someone should die over a piece of fanart you don't like. If you disagree with this stamp, that's fine. Don't like it, use the back button.

I agree.Β Swearing in front of kids sets a bad example, that they can easily learn and pick up and use. They may use it too much and in bad context. I guess knowing swear words at age 12 and onwards is ok, depending on the context. Saying things like "f*cking awesome" could be acceptable at 12, but cursing other people should be left for an older age.

Just my opinion. That's kinda how I grew up.

I don't swear around little kids because I don't want their parents to yell at me, but I disagree with this stamp. They are not blank minds, they're already learning many new things. I think kids should be allowed to know about swear words and cuss, but AFTER they're taught right from wrong and taught when it's okay to cuss and when it's not.

When I was younger, a lot of people swore. My parents, a teacher , a lot of my family, the high schoolers, middle schoolers, etc. Honestly, I think I turned out fine. But don't we all say that?

It's one of those things you still have to think about if you don't want to come off as an asshole. If someone tells you, "Hey, I'm not okay with swearing. I'd like it if you stop, please", swearing back at them just makes you inconsiderate, egotistical and stupid. Also, if you swear between each and every goddamn word, you may need to learn more English, friend. You're not cool or clever or mature, you're an ass. If used at the right times and in the right manner, they can be very effective. But if we swear all the time without thought, cursing will lose its meaning and we'll have to find even worse words to use.Β

It's not that children are incapable of thinking their own way, but rather what would be best for them to learn. You don't want to havr them grow up to develop the vocabulary of a proper English-deprived idiot, would you?

Please be circumspect and thoughtful with your words, thanks.

Ah, it's ok!! I posted that comment about a year ago (geez why did I feel the need to go around saying my age all the time omg) and I got suspended for being underage but when my birthday came and I turned 13, I contacted deviantArt's staff, and, well- now I'm back.Β Β
but thank you anyway!

Really?so you'r saying children aren't capable of thinking?

not only that, but it sounds like your trying to say that every kid who ever heard a curse/cursed before the age you think is appropriate is fucked up?

because if they curse they are obviously a delinquent that will fail life and will be a little brat right?

I can't stand people who say things like "They're going to learn it sooner or later" because that's just plain bad parenting. Common since should tell you some things a young mind just shouldn't know yet, there is a difference between the mind of a child and a mind of a adult.

It's sad how many kids swear now, If I have kids, I want to raise them to not swear at all, 12 or 21.

Here's a story. My family is Russian. My dad's friend (who is also Russian) tried to explain to his son how to say shield in russian, which is pronounced 'sheet' and he kept on saying 'shit' over and over again. Does that make him a bad parent? No.

Don't get me wrong, I cuss like a sailor...But I also have two little brothers. I don't want them to swear like all the other boys their age. And I doubt my parents want them to either.
And so I settle for phrases like "Futher Mucker." It's actually kind of fun to make up substitutes.
My parents are pretty liberal. They don't care if I swear. But if I swear in front of those two, my ass is grass!

Come down to my part time job in the summer daycare. Its got kids 5-14 swearing their butts off and then some. On top of swearing there all worrying who is gonna get/has the best boy/girlfriend in class. 5-14 yr olds don't need to be worrying about dating and make up.
great stamp.

I agree... but I think no one should really want to swear in the first place. the fact that you have to make up words to hide the word you're really saying in your head is just proof how they get stuck on your tongue and mind. I know my teachers and grandma have slipped a few times before despite being in posissions where they are at work or in front of little children and it's inapropriate.

katanabrin In reply to Hybbat [2011-02-05 20:27:57 +0000 UTC]

DO like.
Yea, i kinda wish i wouldn't have started cussing in middle school like everyone else...well actually, when i was little my older sister thought these kids were being mean to me and she came over and told me to say something to them(i didn't know that there was such a thing as bad words at the time cuz i was so young so i said it) and when i went back over to her and she was all " D: i can't believe you actually said that!" but thats only when i learned about them, i started using them in middle school(cuz its just SO cool to have a "sentence enhancer" like damn or shit in middle school -.-
ANYWHO, back on subject, yes, i agree with "I think no one should really want to swear in the first place" thank you.

and I don't get how they can be influenced so badly! I watched South Park since I was 4 and NEVER repeated any of the bad words they said. Now I'm 14 and I'm kinda disapointed of the way I swear so much (usually only when I play videogames)

Um, i believe that kids think of swearing as "sentence enhancing" and "being cool/popular" i did when i was a kid ._.; so they say it so much to get that shock-effect from everyone thats listening. =\
