Description:
MYRRINE ATRIUS, QUEEN OF THE FEY

Myrrine was once a Redmarshal: a person born with the the ability to destabilize all magic at a molecular level and destroy it, simply by being present in the vicinity. This is especially unfortunate for one reason: all manner of life on Tethys contains magic in some form. Meaning of course, a Redmarshal could cause the painful death of an innocent person or random natural body (such as a tree or grass) just by being near. This is why, from birth, people with this ability are forcefully inducted into the official Redmarshal sect of the military where they become branded... a process that involves burning the 'Soterus' onto their body, typically their hands. This glyph-like symbol restrains their wild ability to destabilize magic, limiting it to their own bodies. Though controlled, their ability can not be fully silenced... and anyone/anything living that comes into 'physical' contact with the Redmarshal, with the exception of fellow Redmarshals, will die or be violently destroyed. This makes the life of a Redmarshal a lonely and dangerous one. Though undoubtedly cursed, Redmarshals are utilized throughout Tethys by the military as a means to hunt and track down practitioners of the three illegal magics: Blackchurn (the conjuring of disease and curses), Necromancy (raising the dead), and Ambromancy (prolonging ones life through the death of others). Upon finding these criminals, Redmarshals need simply touch them to flay them of both their illegal magic and their lives, earning them the title of "mystical assassins" and "The Red Death".

Myrrine was once in Rhea's Jagger's squad and often considered to be the "greenhorn"; the rookie. The youngest of the four, she was always eager to prove herself both to her squad mates and the government under which she was obligated to serve from birth. When one of the squad's missions went a little awry and Rhea's life was put in danger, Myrrine made a powerful sacrifice: she took the sword strike that would have ended Rhea's life, with her right arm. Because Myrrine was a Redmarshal, and her 'Soterus' was branded onto that very arm, she inadvertently let her Redmarshal curse run rampant, killing dozens of innocent people in the vicinity, in the process. Thus, she was re-branded with the 'Soterus', this time on her left hand, and put on trial for the deed. Needless to say, Rhea was appalled. She believed that Myrrine should not have been put on trial for such a selfless act. But the government would have their way.

Eventually, Myrrine would be let go, having been found not guilty. Over the course of the next few months, Myrrine would do several important things that would change the world forever. #1: She would learn to mend her severed arm with the Fey; the first form of Curative Magic ever seen. This was something people began to fear, if for two reasons: Firstly, the Fey, the source of all magic, was a tainted force, and had been since the beginning of time. No beneficial magic of any sort, had ever been conjured... and when attempts had been made, destruction was left in their wake. And while Myrrine's mending had been successful, the taint of the Fey had began to eat her away from the inside, out. Secondly, Myrrine had become the first Redmarshal in history to use magic of any sort, throwing what scientists and scholars knew about the Redmarshals, out the window. How could their curse allow them to conjure? Needless to say, because of these things, the people of the world panicked and hailed Myrrine as a monster. They demanded something be done. So she was hunted down and sentenced to death by the government she had served since birth.
#2: In custody once more, this time to be executed, Myrrine snapped. She went ballistic at her execution, fueled with rage and sadness at how she'd been betrayed. "Shoveled onto your doorstep, fresh out of the womb! We serve you without question! We fight for you! Die for you! Every day! We pledge ourselves to you from birth, to serve until death claims us, and you would so quickly turn on us!? So quickly turn on me!? Because you're afraid!?! Fine! Be afraid! But be afraid of something worth your time! Be afraid of the heart you've broken! Be afraid of the War, you've sparked!!!" Shortly after her speech, she broke free of her bindings and severed her newly branded left hand of her own free will... this time, purposely killing innocents: all in attendance. She then marched through the city, leaving death in her path ("Myrrine's March"). A civil war began not long after. Myrrine went on to recruit likeminded Redmarshals to oppose the people they once fought for. She would teach them of her newfound power of healing. But most could not harness it as she could... and succumbed to the taint almost instantly.

I absolutely love the ethereal quality to the coloring! It has a great contrast with the sketchiness.

I get this question quite a bit so Im gonna copy/paste plus add some more bits.

γƒΌAll of my poses first come from my head which are a product of countless life drawing studies. The only time I refer to a reference is when Im having trouble with a certain part of a pose. The first thing I do is think of a pose then doodle some thumbnails or I just go straight into the thumb without thought to see if I stumble opon something cool. When I find what I like, I draw a larger version. For more difficult poses, I use more light construction lines and if Im still having trouble, the first thing I turn to is a mirror or my wife.

What really helped me the most was life drawing, learning how to simplify the body, studying muscle groups, drawing people on the train, etc. All these things helped me to learn how the body works which I could then put into my characters. Even now I still study when I have time.
You can see life drawing or understanding the human body and such as 'knowing the rules.' Once you know these rules, you can start breaking them(ie. exaggerations).

hope this helps.

You're comish work is so damn good. I don't say that very often (because it would lose its impact) but it is!

Heh I also get a kick outta hearing you got into the pose to try and understand it better. So pro.

Wow... so long story, i cannot read it right now, but I love the way that you make postures, do you see a model? or you take the image from your imagination?

For this is was a mix of both. I used myself when I started feeling the pose could be pushed more. I didnt use a mirror though this time. I kneeled in the same manner paying attention to how Im positioned in space.
