Hey, I'm American. ;D (lol obviously). Oh my gosh, a Brit!! I so want to visit the UK, how is it over there? Your accents and history are so interesting!! /jealous/ And don't worry about not celebrating, I heard it's not a big deal over there anyways.

BTW, I checked out your gallery! Your poetry is absolutely amazing. I'm definitely going to read some more.

Why, thank you! It's quite sunny over here today (unusually) and otherwise a rather nice day today. Much as I'd like to say it sucks to be here, and my deep seated anti-patriotic demons say so too... It's actually not too bad here at the moment despite how hard the government tries to make a mess of things

I think I've gotten very used to all the historical stuff
But yes! I find it interesting too though my brothers have a penchant for the American / Russian (for one) histories and American / German (for the other).

There were a few stray fireworks on Friday... But that's about it
As it's such a good weekend, it's been perfect for doing fun things!
As such good weather is a rarity here ;D

Thanks again! And thanks for the faves! ^_^

Aw, you're anti-patriotic? Why is that? Is it because of the government, or the country itself? Cuz our government kinda sucks as well...we've been really divided for a long time now...plus our president hasn't exactly been cherishing our 'Special Relationship' with you guys either. I hope the future looks better. We have a huge debt to pay off and I don't know how the hell that's gonna happen.

You guys like American history?? It seems rather short in comparison to Britain's hahaha. I wish I could take European history, it seems much more dramatic.

No problem! I'm surprised you don't have more views, actually...

I heard the debt's something insane like $50,000 a person there, and about $30,000 here.

And anti-patriotic... I think I'm just naturally very cynical ;D
That, and it seems that the government spends too much time covering its back in the short term instead of running the country sensibly.

European history's mostly just a soap opera of royalty stabbing one another in the backs, and the plebs trying to get on with a job, and without getting killed too much.

Why, thank you !

Yeah, it's freaking ridiculous. And some of our government officials want to raise the debt limit so they can spend more, and then tax the people as compensation. This doesn't make sense to me, yet people still want it anyways. Plus the idea of 'spreading the wealth' around? Sounds a teensy bit socialist to me....

And that sounds similar to us.... I knew Europe was experiencing problems, but I didn't know exactly what of. Everybody I've talked to from Europe doesn't talk about it hahaha.

I know!! That sounds so interesting, like an few centuries long soap operas!! I wish we had more history. I heard you guys consider the American Revolution a minor event in the British Empire and hardly study it, while for us it's the biggest thing ever, being the start of our country. Funny how different countries view events.

Nothing wrong with socialism :3
It's just that it only really works if you have everything controlled by a computer ;D

"Those capable of coming to power, should under no circumstance be allowed to wield it" socialism is about giving all the power to the state. And thus in the power of one person / organisation.
If power corrupts, then absolute power corrupts absolutely

The problem is that socialism cannot separate the problem between self interests and the interest of everyone.
To come to power, one must be an egotist and want power. But to be a good leader of a socialist state, one must want the power for other people and that's a trait that leaders rarely have.

It does interest me the way the USA has such a distaste for socialism - despite having a lot of it going on, and were the socialist aspects removed, people would be quite upset. For instance if the government disbanded all state services e.g. got rid of the police force, and made people pay every time the New Police (TM) came to aid them, and if they couldn't pay, the New Police (TM) would leave them to the mercy of the mugger.
Or even worse - if it were left to locally organised militias and witch hunts.

But "spreading the wealth around"... yes. It's a nice idea. But really what that phrase means is "give the debt to the poor people, and the profit to the rich".
Which isn't exactly Robin Hood

At the moment Greece is ready to go down the pan (I think they're in about $45,000 a head debt).

And yes, unless we go out of our way to study American History at University, we don't do the American revolution. We had our revolution centuries ago, and decided we didn't like it

Plus, it was when we got our butts unroyally kicked But also because we've had an empire that covered the majority of the world. At the time, one less country that was a pain to manage was probably a good thing for us
So yes, it's a very minor event for us.

You should try reading War and Peace (I think that's the one). It's a fine example of the kind of history we've had to put up with
Very soap-operatic.

Oh, and apologies for my rambling I like to do that.

Hahaha yeah, socialism is more of an ideal than anything.

We generally don't like socialism (well, half of us. The other half supports it. This country is so divided ) because it doesn't work well. We were taught to believe that if you work hard, you can be whatever you want. But socialism is where the government takes away the money you worked hard for to give to someone else, believing that it is 'fair'. But since the government is not God, there is no way to know who deserves what. And if you're gonna work your butt off for money that's just gonna be taken away for someone who doesn't care or work at all, why should you work then? The incentive to work lowers, and eventually everyone stops working, believing the government will take care of them. And then it collapses. A nation doesn't run on people who don't work.

And I believe that having the police force provided is in the Constitution under the 10th amendment....but I'd have to look further into it. Also the 2nd amendment allows us the right to bear arms...but I think this is being disputed over as well.

And I don't really understand your statement here:
'But "spreading the wealth around"... yes. It's a nice idea. But really what that phrase means is "give the debt to the poor people, and the profit to the rich".
Which isn't exactly Robin Hood '

From what's going on over here, people believe that taxing the rich will solve all our problems. But what's really going on, is the middle class being taxed. We can't support all these taxes.
You know, I've read and reread this a few times, and I still can't figure out what your views are haha. It sounds like you like the idea, but believe it doesn't work. So I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at? :/

And no problem for the rambling! Sorry this took a while, traveling is exhausting. And I'll definitely look into the book!
