Chapter III - Mandatory image
The night had dragged out until everyone was at their nerve’s end. They didn’t seem to get to their destination. Whenever somebody asked the answer had just been ‘We’ll be there soon.’
For the last ten-or-so miles. Repeatedly.
Everyone was tired. Everyone was exhausted. And more than anything they wanted to finally get off this godforsaken world that was falling apart around them. However, it didn’t seem like they were getting anywhere at all. In fact there had been people whispering that they were completely and utterly lost and nobody had a clue where they were headed.
Neither Wes nor Yan had been talking much the past few hours. Tagging along at the rear end of the group the two men were each occupied with their own thoughts and worries. They only noticed the commotion up front when the queen and the breeding master were already charging off on their respective mounts and were nearly swallowed by the darkness.
“Have they lost their minds?” somebody whispered as they stared into the night. Yan shrugged to answer no one in particular and looked over at his friend. “What’s going on here?”
Wes didn’t answer, his gaze was still glued to the edge of the cliff as though he was seeing something nobody else could see. Maybe it was more like he sensed it, felt it in a shift of tensions in the air, considering what he was.
“Wes?” Yan asked, his voice had dropped down to a whisper and he leaned a bit towards the brunette. “What is it?”
He stayed silent for so long that the Japanese was just opening his mouth to ask again when Wes pointed towards the horizon with his chin. “Look! There it is..”
And when Yan followed his friend’s gaze he saw… a thing that could only be called bridge in the widest sense. It seemed to be made of pure light and sparkled in all the colours of the rainbow. Lighting up the night sky like a beacon it stretched away from the edge of the cliff into spaces that lay beyond the things they could see.
“Bloody hell..” Yan blurted out, so mesmerized by the bridge that he missed Wes shooting him an amused glance with a lopsided smile playing around his lips.
“Yeah… that’s a good way to describe it.”
