Chapter II - Mandatory image

Wes stifled a yawn when the queen finally signalled the stop and upon glancing sideway he noticed that his friend was not much better off. In fact, everyone of the huge group was exhausted out of their minds, they were glad for the chance to rest.
Looking over at the riders that had already dismounted and took care of their horses, Yan slid from Thora's back as well, bracing himself against the mare's flank when his wobbly legs threatened to not hold his weight. After groaning silently, he shook his legs, stretched and started to unbuckle the clasps on Thora's bridle. Even though the mare was tired, she seemed to get increasingly nervous, prancing around on the spot and tossing her head; so much so that Yan couldn't even reach her anymore. He huffed and tugged on the rope that hung from her neck slightly.
"Hey girl, what's the matter, huh?" he asked, stroking the mare's sweaty neck soothingly, but even after scanning their surroundings he couldn't find anything that could have possibly scared the horse. However, it was not only Thora that was feeling spooked; all the horses had started to behave rather odd all of a sudden. He raised his brows and his gaze met Wes'.
"What's going on here?" the brunette man asked, he sure had noticed what was going on.
"Did you see anyth-" he started, but was cut off mid-sentence as a couple of horses started to scream. The horrible sound slowly mixed up with a low roaring that seemed to come from the very ground beneath them and grew louder quickly. Lina and Thora both started to back away, knocking over a tent that had been half-pitched behind them and dragging the two men, that clung to their respective reins with them.

Then a giant tear opened up mere feet in front of Memo's and Trenton's hooves, parts of the ground crumbling and falling down into the seemingly endless pit thatwas only getting wider as the earth quaked and shook beneath them. The surprised yell stuck in his throat wes stumbled backwards, only one thought dominating his mind: Get away from that fissure. Get away.
His shoulder hit the shivering chest of his trusted mare and without thinking, only following his instincts, he hoisted himself up on her back. A sideways glance showed him that Yan had followed suit, only just regaining his stirrups when another violent jerk shook the earth, forcing the riders and their horses who were still close to the fissure to back away even further.
Suddenly Lina reared with a paniced scream as the ground under her hooves gave away. Her reaction made Thora rear as well, her front legs wildly thrashing through the air as both Yan and Wes clung to their mares, holding on for dear life.

As suddenly as the earthquake had begun, it subsided. Only a few crumbs of earth still trickling down into the fissure and they were on the wrong side. They needed to get to the other side. Wes clung tightly to Lina's neck, trying to calm the mare as he checked her for injuries; there were none, much to his luck. Next, he looked over at Yan and Thora, who seemed to be in one piece as well. What he could see in the moonlit night, everyone was alive and safe, for now. The matter of the fact was, they would need to get over. They would have to jump, and the pit of Wes' stomach started to knot.
"W-we have to jump," he said as he let out a long breath, the adrealine pumping through his body and turning the fear into somekind of hyperactive state. He was terrified, but at the same time he was more awake than he had been all day. His heart was pounding, he could feel Lina's heart pounding as well as the light mare let out a snort, still scared of moving any closer to the fissure on the ground. Yan looked just as concerned as Wes' did as their gazes turned towards the broken ground they would have to cross, and the shared question in their minds: How.

Yan couldn't help smiling admist the fear when he noticed Wes touching the ring under his shirt.

Anyhoooowwww story etc. were rather short due to the fact that Sora has been traveling today and I'm struggling a lot with art, but I don't want to give up this journey :U This was also perhaps not the best of days to take the neighbours hyperactive dog over here. Half of my day was wasted on that until I gave up and threw her back over to their apartment OTL

Done with excuses now, enjoy the picture and hopefully our extra(s) will add up to this mess that is 99,9% my fault and 0,01% Sora's schools fault. DAMN YOU, COP SCHOOL! (and european holidays)
