You have no idea how much I struggeled with this. And when I was done I was quite proud of myself. But don't worry, soon I'll start to see all the flaws again.

The shading and the musculature on this are really, really awesome. Also, the creature itself is really interesting and the breath puffing up into the air (visibly) is a great touch. ^_^

I'd love to leave criticism, except I'm really not even close to an expert on animal anatomy or anything, let alone like, mythical creatures. >__<
The only thing I would say is that the tail seems a bit messy, but I don't think that's a real problem as it doesn't at all defer from the awesomeness of the whole picture :<
Really, I can't get over the way to color, I'm simply in love.
And the whole body form, the lighting, the portrayal of the character. Everything.
I'm sure there are problems, but really, I love it.

mmmh. i love the way you shaded this and all the little details like the tree branch and the wings. :]
although the snow on the branch looks a bit out of place, the picture is still fantastic.

I really love how the lighting comes onto the hind leg that's coming forward.It looks so realistic! And the shading on the neck... And the tiny details in the eyes!!! What was the original filesize!? @_@;;

I mean, okay, I can do normal shading and I've got the gist of shading faces, like around the eyelids and under the cheeks and all that, but when I look at pics like this I can't believe we use basically the same program.... @_@ (I'm using CS2)

Aaah, there are so few words for how awesome this is. I love the technique, painterly styled works always get me. The tree is freakin' hawt--love those rich colors and the bark texturing! I'm also really digging the way you shaded this, fantastic job!

Here's my bit to not be a favbomber.
As with all of your work, I love your shading technique: the use of warms and cools within the same color and tonal family. I especially love the use of compliments, which is one of the simplest but most overlooked methods of shading. Everyone always reaches for the black and white for shading and highlights, but your pieces are so exquisitely unique and... well, gorgeous.
I hope that justifies my faving of this deviation.

thanks, i hate using a darker shade of the same color, I like colors so Instead I use alot of contrasts in my shading.

hmm.. you want critic, you get it.. how about separating the place where the arm comes from the body and where the wingthing comes from the body? it looks now as if it has been glued on to his body, insteado of is a part of it.

Well, it really is quite an amazing piece. I might've continued that "eye-ish" spot on that wing and brought it down through the wing. Kind of like a butterfly. But since I can't really create anything on this level yet, I'm not exactly in the best position to be saying this. But it's just an overall great piece.

I don't know what it is, but the feet intrigue me. They just seem so sleek, delicate. And the wood...it just takes me all over the place, I want to look here and there, and every time I notice something a little different. And I am a sucker for curly edges :3
The coloring is absolutely fantastic, really giving the charcter pop, and I love the subtle little furry bits along the edges.
The only thing that seemed to bother me a little is the circle above the creature's head. With how everything else seems handcreated, having the single perfect shape seems a little out of place. Especially since all the other snowflakes are handrawn instead of created with a click with the roundbrush.
Other than that, it's a gorgeous piece.
