Thank you! I hadn't planned on coloring it, mainly because I don't feel I'm very good with color. But I might try it, and see how it comes out!

If I do, I'll be sure to put it up, here. And link to it from this one, so the two can be compared! I only hope I wouldn't ruin it, with trying to color it! I don't have a lot of color confidence. (O.o)

personal cheerleading squad here...give me an 'K', give me an 'A', give me an 'I", give me an 'S', give me an 'T', give me two 'R's...what does that spell "KAISTARR"! Ok, done with being annoying...

hehehehehe Not at all annoying! I don't get enough of that kind of thing, really! Well, except from my girlfriend, and it's kind of her job as girlfriend to do that, just as it's my job as boyfriend to do it for her. (^-^) But I do appreciate it, no matter who does it! Thanks!

NP...oh yeah, I was wondering about your band...I'm thinking about getting into one, with all my songs I written, maybe you can give me some pointers..

KaiStarr In reply to fols2005 [2006-01-23 01:39:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, I could try. It's been years since I had a real band, but I still write songs, still sing, and still play guitar and bass. Is there anything in particular you have questions about?

Well, first of, how far did you go with it, 2nd...is it better to have a gimmick or not, third...umm...what do you think is the best number to have, as far as amount of members in a band...

KaiStarr In reply to fols2005 [2006-01-23 06:53:33 +0000 UTC]

We got as far as a few gigs in sleazy local bars, mostly playing covers of classic rock and some punk songs. Then we had a major problem with our drummer, who was, quite honestly, a total jerk. That pretty much ended our working days, when he split. We couldn't find anyone else to handle drums. As for a gimmick, I think it depends on the type of music you're playing, and whether or not you're any good. Really good bands don't need a gimmick to get work, but sometimes, one is needed to get more attention outside your local area. The number of members is also flexible, depending on the music. My last one was a 4-piece, with a drummer, bassist, guitarist, and me on vocals and extra guitar. Some need a couple of guitarists, and some don't. Some songs require keyboards or synth, so you'd have to have someone to do that. It all depends on a lot of things, not least of which is what kind of sound you're after and what you personally like. The only thing I'd really strongly suggest is that you try to find musicians who also sing, and who can write lyrics and/or music. That, in my opinion, just makes the whole group a lot stronger, if everyone can fully contribute to all aspects of the music.

Heh That's kind of the way I was with guitar. I brought my first one home, and scared the poop out of my parents by playing...I forget now if it was "Ring of Fire" or "Ghost Riders in the Sky." In any case, it was a song I'd never played before, and I'd never played a guitar, before that. I did the same thing with piano. I guess they thought I was possessed or something. (O.o)

Screaming isn't good for the vocal chords, even if your voice is trained. Mine isn't really trained, though I had been in choirs in school. They don't really teach you how to sing from the diaphram, or how to extend your range without ruining your voice. I had to learn all that crap on my own. I've extended my singing voice for 8 hours, before, by sucking on Luden's Wild Cherry Cough drops in between songs. It works, but it's bad for your liver to suck all that medicine down, so I didn't do it, often.

We didn't get as far as cutting a record, so we didn't have anything to give to local stations. However, there is a tape, somewhere out there, of us playing a set live, which I hope never surfaces, because if memory serves me, the tape sucked dirty monkey butt. It was recorded by a girl groupie of ours who giggled through the whole thing, because she was stoned off her rocker. (O.o) My bands were only interested in doing cover songs, so I didn't see any point in trying to get permission to use all those songs in a recording. I was developing my own songs, on the side. I was just unlucky in being in more than one band that was full of lazy buggers who found it easier to learn some already-famous song than to work out original parts for original songs. Looking back, I should have split with them long before our drummer split.

There's a lot of stuff on the 'net for indie artists, now, too. A lot of internet radio is very indie-friendly, for instance. Local stations around my area don't really do the promo stuff for local artists, anymore. They did, back in the 80s and early 90s, but most of the stations got bought out by the big fat conglomerates who are only interested in set playlists by major artists. Phoo on that crap!

I pretty much changed my goals from music to writing and art, some time back, because I'd gotten into financial trouble and had to sell my Strats and amps. But now I've got some good guitars, again, and a decent amp, and a way to record, so with my new comic, I'm hoping to put out at least a couple of original MP3's for downloading. I'm no longer interested in doing the full-time band thing, or touring, or any of that. I just want to make music the way I want it done, and not have to be bothered with the internal politics that a lot of bands seem to have going on. (O.o)

Well, my friend is canned then...lol...I still need more practice on my guitar playing, but I always have tunes stuck in my head, always writing songs (they still need to be ironed out alil), and I never played guitar until one day, I just picked up my friends guitar at his apartment..and just started to play it (like an actual tune, without plicking the wrong cords), like I knew what I was doing. Only reason I started to get really intrested into the concept of a band. I think I could sing, but I would need a voice trainer, as I can't scream off the top of my lungs, without crackling alil, but than again. The lead singer of Green Day, does that and get's out of note...so does Chester from Linkin Park, but that boy just whales out those screams. Suprised he hasn;t had vocal cord damage, yet. Of course I guess that's why people need to train there voice, so it doesn't become damaged as fast.
Did you ever make an album, have any played on a local radio station. They do that stuff for local artists, on the Buzz, here. Kind of cool, help bands get promoted. And seems to be plenty of record labels around, just need to get all the rough edge's taken care of. You thinking about getting back into the buisness, or did you change out your goals..

Thanks! She's a ghost, so I needed for her hair to move in an unusual, almost spooky way. I think of that space-in-between as being made up of softly undulating waves of energy, like a spiritual sea.
