Cool design of the creature but it's not Godzilla, the real Godzilla would take this guy down! Zilla is cool but the movie was Godzilla in name only and should had been called something else.

I really like Zilla's design, but I recognize that he just doesn't have Godzilla's traits. All of his traits are really shared with giant monsters in a general sense.

Well, it doesn´t really matter what he is for you, now does it? The fact is, that is not Godzilla. You can call Batman "Superman" all you want. And you can even tell me that you don´t follow that comic bullshit, but that doesn´t mean that Batman is Superman.

Lies. It is a fact that Godzilla '98 is just another incarnation of the Godzilla character and trademark (hence why the creature is even called "Godzilla" in the first place), and this does matter. Batman has never been trademarked under the "Superman" title and character, so that's a ridiculously faulty analogy.

Not anymore. Toho even said he's Godzilla in name only in that film, but in actuality, is a different creature all together. They even commented on this in GMK 2001. They said "The Americans said they spotted Godzilla in New York." "Yeah. Not likely." Not that I don't like Zilla, I love him. But he ain't no Godzilla. He's his own Kaiju.

This is false and out-dated info.
Toho NEVER described Godzilla (1998) as "Godzilla In Name Only" (GINO), but that is an acronym which film critic Richard Pusateri from G-Fan Magazine coined back in 1998 as a declaration of his disapproval of this new incarnation of the famous monster.
Toho were under full control of the development of the 1998 film and its creatures, and Sony and Metropolis were under contract to always present their ideas to Toho before going further, and Toho approved of everything in the 1998 film, and they even expressed (as recorded in the Film Review magazine from 1998 for example) adoration and love for the new Godzilla. Toho loved and approved the 1998 film and monster before it was even released.
The reference in GMK was a fan-service by the film's crew insulting the 1998 film and monster. It was NOT an official declaration of Godzilla (1998) being stripped of its copyright.
The copyright of Godzilla (1998) has NOT been changed as evident by the continual re-releases of the 1998 film on VHS, DVD, UMD, Blu-ray etc;
“GODZILLA and the GODZILLA character and design are marks of Toho Co., Ltd. The GODZILLA character and design are copyrighted works of Toho Co., Ltd. All are used with permission.”
This has been discussed and dealt with on various occasions earlier, and this name change myth has to cease already. Even if Toho would ever intentionally wish to rename Godzilla (1998) and change its copyright, they could not do it because their contract with Sony doesn't allow for it.
Also, Keith Aiken from Sci-Fi Japan stated the following and debunked the misconception that Godzilla (1998) supposedly isn't "Godzilla";
i.imgur.com/rw74Yk0.jpg
Officially, Godzilla (1998) is NOT Zilla, but Zilla is Godzilla (1998). Just as Mechagodzilla is NOT Kiryu, but Kiryu is Mechagodzilla. Zilla is just a variation of Godzilla (1998). This fact has even been well-established on the otherwise controversial Wikipedia article about the character;
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zilla_(T…
Officially, Godzilla (1998) is legally registered and documented as an approved incarnation of the Godzilla character and design, and personally I never had any issues at all with this creature, but I loved it, adored it, accepted it and appreciated it from the very start.

Still not Godzilla. Zilla looks too much like a T-Rex. Plus, I don't recall Godzilla being an A-sexual reproducer. Or running away from military hardware, although, Zilla being pregnant is a good excuse for running away from all those choppers. But Godzilla eats that shit for breakfast! Don't get me wrong, Zilla is cool, one of the most underrated Kaiju of all time, and he proved his medal in Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, but he can never truly be Godzilla. Just like Michael Bay's version of Optimus Prime can never truly be Optimus Prime, but that's because Michael Bay's version sucks for being a psychopath with a constant murder-boner the size of Texas with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Not the Superman-like father figure Optimus Prime is in every other adaptation. At least Zilla's his own Kaiju now, so says Toho & IDW. Also, bad-ass Godzilla music video done to Kageyama-Sama's HEATS: www.youtube.com/watch?v=orGoWT…

Now you're merely arguing from a subjective personal viewpoint, which isn't an argument at all. You may personally choose to refer to Godzilla (1998) as "Zilla", but legally and officially that is incorrect, because from such an objective perspective, Godzilla (1998) will permanently be registered and documented as an incarnation of the Godzilla character and design, and Zilla is just a SEPARATE VARIATION of Godzilla (1998), just like Kiryu is a separate variation of Mechagodzilla, or how Rainbow Mothra is a separate variation of Mothra, or even how Cyber-Godzilla is a separate variation of Godzilla (1998) as well. Sure, you have every right to call these monsters whatever you want, but that will not make you any more right nor any less wrong. Godzilla (1998) will remain as "Godzilla" regardless of what anyone personally thinks. It can't be changed, and the conviction that all of this is false is but merely wishful thinking. Get over it. They're fictional characters, and it's been nearly 20 years since Godzilla (1998) surfaced, it's time people humble themselves and learn to respect all the different faces of Godzilla and every one of his fans, regardless of our differences. At least we can agree that Godzilla (1998) and each of his various variations are very much underrated.

Then why is "'98 Godzilla" referred to as Zilla in the Godzilla: Rulers of Earth comics? Sure, he got his name from a garbled communication warning that Godzilla was coming, but they stuck with it. Hell, even the artist of this picture, Matt Frank of IDW's Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, has accepted that the creature from the '98 film is Godzilla in name only & refers to him as Zilla. And Zilla isn't even the same species as Godzilla. Zilla is a mutated iguana, Godzilla is a mutated Godzillasaurus (Yes. That's the official designation for the Godzilla species as dictated by Toho.). Just like THIS is Optimus Prime: images.naldzgraphics.net/2011/… This is Optimus Prime: tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/t… This is Optimus Prime: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/t… This is Optimus Prime: www.transformers-universe.com/… This is Optimus Prime: tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/t… This is Optimus Prime: vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/t… AND This is Optimus Prime: toys.tfw2005.com/wp-content/up… But this ugly POS Terminator rip-off: cdn.playbuzz.com/cdn/8dcf81df-… ISN'T Optimus Prime!

I JUST TOLD YOU in my previous reply.
Zilla is a separate variation of Godzilla (1998), or just like Cyber-Godzilla is a separate variation of Godzilla (1998), or just like Godzilla (1998) is a separate variation of Godzilla, or just like Kiryu is a separate variation of Mechagodzilla, or just like Rainbow Mothra is a separate variation of Mothra, or just like Kaiser Ghidorah is a separate variation of King Ghidorah etc. etc. etc.

Oh, ok, now I see. So, basically, due to some legal bullshit, any appearance of that flat-nosed reptile, from 2004 and on, is referred to as "Zilla". But anything before is still trademarked as "Godzilla" and thus, they are technically, and legally, different characters. Ok, fair enough, I wasn't aware of that. HOWEVER, the image above is titled "Charging Zilla". Therefore, the character depicted on the image is Zilla, and NOT Godzilla (1998). Thus, the correction I made in my original reply ("Technically, he´s not Godzilla, so it can´t be your favorite Godzilla design.") still stands true. The creature on the image ISN'T any depiction or version of Godzilla, it is Zilla. So I was right any way.

Not really. You're the one who doesn't seem to be getting the point. Zilla is a separate monster from Godzilla. Just like Goku from Dragon Ball is a separate entity from Ukog from Dragon Ball: Evolution. And Optimus Prime from The Transformers is a separate character from Psychotimus Prime from Michael Bay's Shitformers. Not that I don't like Zilla. I do! He's freaking awesome. He's just not Godzilla.

Pellchinnn In reply to goji62 [2017-08-05 21:08:17 +0000 UTC]
First off, if you ask me, it's definitely respectful, just a different and more modern, monstrous, cooler, faster, slimmer, scarier, and more natural and agile version. Second, whether or not this is a "better" or the "best" design is completely a matter of personal opinion, taste, and experience. If you don't like it, fine, you have every right to. I just don't get the point of sharing such an unnecessary negative view about something others feel very positively about.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
goji62 In reply to Pellchinnn [2017-08-06 02:36:13 +0000 UTC]
Lmao it is not respectful, it's silhouette is not even recognizable as godzilla. A modern respectful take on godzilla is the 2014 version, it has everything it needs to be considered godzilla. This design is objectively a terrible godzilla design, it is however a good monster design.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Pellchinnn In reply to goji62 [2017-08-06 21:17:35 +0000 UTC]
If that's your opinion, fine. Again, you have every right to disagree. I'm sorry to hear you disliked G98, but I just don't see why I should care. We're sharing our admiration of the beast here. Godzilla 1998 and 2014 are just two different modern takes on the same essential monster. You can't call ANY Godzilla design or monster design "objectively terrible" or "good", because there is no such standard for what is a "good" or "bad" Godzilla/monster-design. To say there is, that's just arrogant. This has always been a completely subjective issue, it's always been about personal taste, and you simply can't either expect people to just agree with you nor to impose your own opinions upon others as if they were like a moral law. Please, be respectful of other people's opinions (especially on nonessential matters such as this one), and let's all just enjoy this entertaining fictional work together as Godzilla-fans, and don't go down each other or put each other down over mere personal opinions and preferences.
