Description WIP picture for CatharsisJB's water life contest.

The 'leafy' parts on a sea dragon aren't it's fins, it has the transparent fins, one on the back and two on the side of its head. To make my seadragons fins I got some alfoil and drew very lightly onto it with a toothpick, leaving indents of the fin structure and put liquid fimo on the alfoil. The fimo picked up the texture from the alfoil and after they were baked I cut them to size with scissors. I hadn't tried this before but thought it might work because when I did a test of the liquid clay on alfoil it looked like the surface of the alfoil. Now that I know this works I'm going to make some fishies!

It has a wire armature in the body and one piece in each of the larger leafy parts, with a bit of apoxie to join the wires together. Because the leafy parts would be very fragile they are mostly bendy sculpey but the mix is from 4 different clays.

I read that leafy sea dragons can change colour due to many factors. This one appears to be part way through the process. All colour is coloured clay (lots of mixing colours, but no paint or additives).

still to do: face patterning, other body 'rotrusions', smoothing and refining, loops

I love leafy sea dragons! That's so awesome that you're making one. You ought to do a coatimundi, that would be cool.
