This isn't done yet... I'm uploading it for comments purposes. I'm recoloring this image (obviously) and I got the geisha done fine, but the maiko is driving me nuts... does anyone have any comments on what color her obi would look good as? She has a ton more detail than the geisha, and the picture is quite old, so its hard to see. The original belongs to my friend Naomi, I'll put all credits up with the final piece. Well, the full geisha's collar would be pure white, for starters, and the senior maiko on the right would have hints of red on her collar. The maiko's hana kanzashi could be an azalea or hydrangea, both summer flowers, so I imagine sprout green and golden yellow would be seasonally appropriate on her obi. And the crest in the background indicates these geisha are from the Gion Kobu district of Kyoto.

eeee! geisha! i love how skillfully you're recolouring the photo. for the maiko, i'd suggest a gold or an orange obi. ^^; and this picture reminds me of a scene out of the book "memoirs of a geisha"...
