Description Obsidian Wrath  and Willow Run Sundry Belle
training in
Fine Harness, pair

With the exception of those who possess food, Belle hated everyone. She didn't get along with mares, and she definitely didn't get along with stallions. She weaned her foals promptly and didn't like too much attention from her handlers. What she really wanted in life was to eat and to be left alone while doing so. Which was why we were positively mystified to find that she got along swimmingly with Brute. It could have been his calm and gentle demeanor, though Gypsy was equally so, or perhaps it was his advanced age (being the oldest of our herd, Belle herself being second.) Or maybe he had a sort of Old World gentlemanly quality to him, having come from across the pond. Whatever it was, it put Belle in such an uncharacteristic docile mood that at first Finn thought she might be ill.

He liked to pair the less experienced drivers with the more seasoned ones, but Finn never could have predicted the pair these two would make. Brute perked his ears and nickered at the lady at first, but then settled in to do his job.  Belle was quiet, her ears loosely flinging to and fro as she pulled. An attentive student, the stallion paid close attention to his mentor, and soon they had found a matching rhythm. They clopped along the gravel drive in silence, reminiscent of an elderly couple so used to each other's company that they had no need for words.

Tried something a little bit different this time around. Broke out my fine watercolor brushes and lined this in india ink. It's not perfect- I used kind of crappy paper and made a lot of mistakes with the tack and anatomy, but I like the overall look and effect. Can you spot where I dropped the brush?

Inking with a brush has to be one of my favorite things ever. I just love the quality of the lines it gives even if there is the occasionally moment of hyperventilating. I really love Brute's forelock. You did an awesome job of it.

(I have a good idea where the brush dropped, but I won't tell if you don't)

Thanks! I've inked with a quill before, but I was a little nervous that a brush might drive the more detail-oriented side of me nuts I actually really liked it though, and plan to do more in the future!

I love that you can get a huge range of line thicknesses from a single tool. I have a set of sumi-e brushes that are fabulous for inking. They hold a lot of ink and taper to a nice point, even on the chunky ones.

I look forward to seeing them!

This is so beautiful! The inked lines, the watercolors, everything! Such incredible attention to detail. I love how different the texture of their manes look. And as always I am utterly impressed by your buckles and straps.

Wonderful!

Thank you! I love ink and other traditional media, but I'm super neurotic so it's always a bit of an exercise for me Glad you like them!
