Description The Enterprise's civilians were evacuated into the saucer section, uncoupling it from the secondary hull to get them safe, while the combat section places the enemy on the ground to give the saucer section time to flee.

We don't get to see action shots of saucer separation very often and this one is rather wonderfully done as we see the saucer peeling off to protect itself as the lower hull charges into battle to defend its counterpart.

The glow of the engine nacelles coupled with the aggressive positioning of the lower section really give it an aggressive and almost predatory appearance which amplifies the sense of protectiveness that the piece is portraying.

The lighting of the piece is quite good, giving us clear views of the lines of both sections of the ship as they maneuver to engage in the ongoing conflict before them.

It's a very dynamic piece with plenty of well illuminated action and some charming symbolism.

Sieht toll aus. Die farbliche Beleuchtung auf der HΓΌlle kriegst du jetzt richtig gut hin.

Getting the civilians to safety was a good idea on paper, till the production crew found out how much story time it took up to carry it out. Then they started writing the show in such a way that there was no time to evacuate. I think "Best of Both Worlds" was the last time it happened till "Generations".

You are absolutely right.

You have to wonder- within the world of Star Trek- If Starfleet has regular drills for evac and separation? Like one every six months or so?

So I personally would also assume that there are regular exercises to prepare the crew and the civilians. Would at least make sense.

Especially when you consider the fact that some of the scientists on board would only be there temporarily- maybe a year if that- and have little or no Starfleet training. With a constantly shifting compliment, I'd think they'd have to have routine drills or at least briefings to keep everyone up to date on where to go in emergencies.

Actually, since almost all of the civilian and science stations are in the saucer section and the drive section is mostly dedicated to the actual operation of the ship, evacuations SHOULDN'T be that big of a problem... of course, they are for dramatic purposes.Β  The biggest move should be the "Battle Shift" moving into the drive section and the non-combat crew moving out.Β  Even the bridge officers wouldn't have that big of a move when you consider they'd be using an express turbolift from Saucer Bridge to Battle bridge.Β  Basically, there's no reason an evacuation should take more than a few minutes.Β  5 at the most.

And the Captain of the Odyssey was a complete moron for not doing this BEFORE GOING INTO THE WORMHOLE!
