Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

This is amazing!

Nicely done -- the background treatment is moody, terrific. The portrait itself is an appealing blend of realism and quasi-caricature.

Thanks. In my opinion an artist/illustrator should be able to do foto realism. But that's just the technical side of the art process. What makes a drawing to something special is the artists very own style...otherwise you could just use an actual foto.
A good example would be the great Drew Struzan. He went beyond foto realism with his art and I think that's what makes his posters so appealing compared to a modern photoshopped poster.

He recently put out a terrific hardcover book, The Art of Drew Struzan (Titan books) that collects many of his best known pieces since the '80s, including a lot of roughs and variations. Highly recommended. Beautiful stuff -- one of my favorite artists and, along with Bob Peak, my favorite film poster designer (I'm a collector of original one-sheets). The main point of the book though is that it explains his early retirement; it chronicles the demise of true poster art and the change in the studios' taste and preference for the bland photoshopped things that pass as one-sheets today. Sad.

Thanks for the tip.Struzan is one of my Idols and the book seems to be great. I agree, it is sad that the studios prefer these ugly photoshopped posters which all look the same. It's like a deja vu whenever you see a poster for a new movie.
If they really do realease the Star Wars movies in 3D they just have to use Struzan posters!
