Description When posting this artwork I had a little doubt for a minute. Should it be posted in the Fantasy section or in Surreal? Hmm, it became Fantasy.

When I create art I usually have the same inspiration sources in my mind. Theater for example. I'm a member of our local theatergroup. Last year we played 'Les Miserables' and I had the honour to play the character Marius. Anyhow, I see the theater when I'm on stage but also everything that's going on backstage. Costumes, props, the first sketches for the decor etc etc. It's beautiful to be part of that and I capture that feeling by putting it in my artworks. Ofcourse mixed with classical paintings, but you should know that by know.

Maybe you'll understand this artwork better if you read the short story I wrote in my other artwork 'The end of magic'. That elfs kingdom got distroyed. The end of all darkness and evil things. And in return comes a good time where every starts to grow again.

In 'Whispering grass' you see a good 'Forrest prince'. Someone who makes everything new and fresh. I tried to symoblize that by the grass. The thin curtains are open to reveal the begining of something new. I tried to give the surrounding frame the look of some old 'Shakespeare theater. I had really fun making this artwork because (altough I'm the creator) it was telling me his story.

I hope you like it.

My first glimpse made me think "Mirror, mirror on the wall..."
As a thumbnail, it looked like a face in a mirror to me.
Beautiful, beautiful color in this! And the composition... everything!

If there wasnt those grasses, it could surely be the cover art from The Picture of Dorian Gray, from Oscar Wilde...

Nice John. I love his eyes and hair. The theaterical influence is obvious here, in the composition of the work for exemple and in many other details. Very beautiful. And the colors are great too, it's nice to see you work with green-ish tons!

Wow!! This is gorgeous- I love the textures and the delicate details. The curtains are really cool- are they from brushes that you made? Are there two birds in there or am I imagining?

JohndeLano In reply to mullybinks [2006-04-18 20:41:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Diviya. The curtains are indeed brushes created by me. About the birds; no you aren't imagining it, there are indeed two birds that are hiding.
