Description After 15 years in the distant suburbs we've decided to move back into town (though technically we're still in the suburbs as this is Vancouver's nearby community of Burnaby). It's going to be a huge change, leaving a huge garden for a smallish apartment on the 16th floor, but it's time. I currently spend 2 hours each day commuting - that will drop to about 2 minutes, we can get rid of our second car as transit is two blocks away. Mostly though - I'm just a city boy; we would inevitably drive into town most weekends - why not live there.
The arrow points to our suite - the view is to the north as shown in this photo. That's The Lions looming in the center distance with a little bit of Grouse Mountain's ski runs visible at the far right. Hidden from this view, but visible from our place is downtown Vancouver to the left and Washington State's Mt. Baker to the far right.
We're moving in mid-June and you're all invited to a house-warming.

Nope - we're across Lougheed from the Gilmore station, at the corner of Halifax and Gilmore.

oh wow
well...
i wish you all total happiness and a good new fresh world of familiarity and yet not.
oooh-i'd love to come to the house warming...or at least visit.
i'd love to meet you!
maybe?
someday?
anyway-good luck with all the chaos of moving-
but enjoy it-even the chaos of moving this and that and reconstructing your surroundings will be memorable.
great news
i relate
i moved from semi-country to a small city just 2 years ago.
i also am a city person--
but also not
you know how it is
all places have their appeals
i grew up in/near cities too though-so-i know that feeling.
all my best to you/family

This is great news. 2 minutes versus two hours is a good deal and Brentwood Mall area is a fun place. (Hey it even has a London Drugs ). I am spending 3 hours daily on commuting from Port Moody to Vancouver and back and it is getting to me some days. Congrats John! And by the way awesome shot of the area.

Burnaby is where we stayed most of the time when my daughter first visited your province...wonderful area! (Her move north is delayed a year...wants her health more stable first... community college in the mean time) As a Southern California native, I'm not sure I would ever live higher than a second floor (I'm not very trusting of earthquakes). The transit system is wonderful up there, and I think you will greatly reduce your need to drive...except for photographic expeditions of course.

What a small world. I'm not sure that Vancouver is much better than SoCa when it comes to earthquakes, but if the big one hits and all the towers come tumbling down, I'm not sure that I'd really want to be a survivor. I am looking forward to leaving a much smaller environmental footprint.

That's great news! I can't begin to imagine driving for two hours just to go to work! UGHHHH

Yeah, and two hours is a good day. Now it will take longer to get to underground parking from our suite than it will to drive to work. If I didn't need the car for work, I'd consider getting rid of it too.

Wow I could never give up the garden for a suite. But cars suck as does commuting. You should get a community garden in town going.

I've got my name in for an allotment plot and am taking my trusty spade with me.
