Description I didn't love you enough
Not like I know I should
I fear that I betrayed you
Like you thought I would
I didn't mean to hurt you
I didn't think of you at all
Until that final moment
The last second of my fall

I know you blamed yourself
But don't, my dearest, don't
I'd tell you to stop loving me
But I can feel you won't
I understand your love is true
But what I still don't get
Is how I can love you back so much
But when it counts, forget

You were the greatest love I had
And I was just a fool
I left you to grieve and pine for me
I was hurting, but still cruel
But remember a lifebond never ends
When your pain gets too tough
Somehow I'll find you once again
And I'll love you enough

I'm crying right now. This is so beautiful and tragic. I love the couple, and I love how Tylendel managed to fulfill that promise at the end.

I read this, and I about started crying. I could see Lenny screaming at Van for help as he fell, but knowing it was too late. TT.TT I picture this being left on van's pillow one day before training with the Hawkbrothers with a single red rose even though it is the middle of winter, and no one alive has any idea how it got there. But Vanyel knows.

Thanks - I'm really glad that you enjoyed this. It was a very emotional poem for me of course, and something that people who don't know the books probably never really understand...

If you haven't read the books, none of this would make much sense at all, but when you have, this piece is enough to practically tear your heart out. Had you been in Velgarth, I think you might well have been Gifted with composition. As it stands, I thank you for this beautiful piece that gives voice to the sorrow you know Tyledel felt once he realized what he had done.

Gosh, this brought tears to my eyes. I just finished reading the first book of the series.
Poor 'Lendel and Vanyel D:

I love this poem. It's incredibly beautiful and well-written, and I definitly feel it's what Tylendel would've said to his ashke

Thank you! That is one depressing book, isn't it? It was so intense, emotionally speaking.

It was good. I can see and hear Tylendel really saying those words, as he watches Vanyel struggle through everything after his death. It's really kind of sad, when you think abut it, but beautiful all the same. Great writing.

It is sad, definitely... but I find that many beautiful things are. Thanks for the fav.

The Last Herald Mage trilogy are my favorite books.... I'm glad I'm not alone in that sentiment. Beautiful words of apology from Tylendel's view.

I've never before read this series though I have friends who have... I must say though, your poem has inspired me to go hunt them down. It's very well written and has a great deal of emotion behind it. Beautiful.

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! Those books are definitely well-worth reading, especially if you like emotional stuff. I feel honored to think of something I wrote leading somebody to read them.
