*IMPROVED from the first posting I did of this drawing, you can see in the 2nd WIP the slight changes that I did improved it a lot.My latest Pieta drawing, this one was completely done with colored pencils, no use of pastel or graphite pencils. It was fun to do and I think the background adds something to it, clearly was hard to get that look of the natural marble but it turned out ok I feel. And giving color to Mary gave her a little more life I feel, but it is hard to color a marble statue.
This image turned out better because I did not have a glare on the piece which distorted the colors of the colored pencils. This is what is looks like in person and shows the shading much better.
Here is my 2nd WIP: Key changes being I added more to the back of her neck so her head did not look so big, and I smoothed out a few of the rough spots as well and made them blend more. Also rounded the head a tiny bit. Little stuff but I could not stand it unless they were done. And again the lighting on this one does not do it justice.

This really is very beautiful and eye catching. I love the warm background colours in contrast to the cool colours on the figure. The shading and fabric are fantastic. A delicious image to view

Thank you so much, I am glad you like it. I did two other black and white ones with a black and white/gray background. Thought some color would be nice, hard to do marble though and it is not perfect but a nice change of pace.
