Is that the new live action film? or is there a second series in the works?

I believe it is going to be an animated movie that takes place shortly after the Yamato leaves Iscandar. From what I understand, while the Yamato is on its trip back to Earth, the crew accidentally bumps into a Comet Empire fleet and warps away from it. They somehow end up near what may, or may not be, the Comet Empire's homeworld.

I think that this empire could fight the Star Wars one

I agree. The comet itself would give the Death Star quite a fight. If the Death Star's superlaser failed to destroy it (and I think that's very likely), it would be in serious trouble.

I am so glad that word is getting out to the fans about this great series. That would be an epic battle, I am looking forward to seeing that!

Great job! The Comet Empire was one of the most formidable foes in the universe.

I've been watching parts of Yamato 2199 on Youtube. I agree, it's fantastic. I've heard rumors that they are going to do a battle between the Gamilas/Gamilons and the Comet Empire. I've always wanted to see that.

Hi - I'm another long time Star Blazers fan enjoying the hell out of 2199... amazing animation (with the aid of computers you can now really animate thousand ship Gamilon fleets), and the story is doing some interesting things keeping it fresh beyond just a shot for shot remake of the original. I will actually be going with a small group to Japan in August to see the opening of the final chapter in theaters!
I'm glad I decided to look for "Comet Empire" on DA during a lull in work and came across this!
And although it had been a few months since your above comments, in case you haven't seen it, yes indeed, there is a battle between a Gamilon fleet (commanded by General Lysis) and some Comet Empire light carriers and destroyers ! I first saw this clip late last December (while working after Xmas - we were super busy!) and it's lucky there were very other people in the office then so no one was walking past my cubicle to see the happy tears streaming down my face!

Wasn't that great?! Personally, I didn't think the Gamilons could defeat a Comet Empire. That shows what I know! It all boiled down to tactics, and Lysis whipped them.

Well it may have mattered that the Comet fleet was some light carriers and a few destroyers, and Lysis had a much larger number of what look like heavier class ships. Would be cool to see Gamilons (armed maybe with SMITE and a Desslok Gun) fight something like the Saturn fleet (with heavy battleships and a Magna-flame Gun), not to mention the question of what they'd do against the Comet itself...

True. I think the Gamilons would have to use their MSITE weapon immediately. Otherwise, those Comet Empire battleships would wreak havoc. They were powerful enough to destroy several of the Earth Defense Fleet's ships. It would also boil down to whichever side could commit the most forces to the field, so to speak. The Gamilons, from what I've seen in the new series, have enormous fleet.
But then there's the Comet itself....I'm not sure what they could do against that. There is a way of bringing the outer shield down. In Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato, the Yamato fired its wave motion gun at a vulnerable spot (a small opening leading to the shield generator, I think). Desslok could do that, but there would still be a massive fight between the two empires.

Oops! I mean SMITE, not MSITE. LOL.

reminds me of an old conversation among some friends of mine, Friend 1 asked "How could the Gamilons beat the White comet, they'd be totally outclassed!" Friend 2 says "Don't forget all these mad science weapons the Gamilons keep coming up with in the first season! How would the comet fare if you, say, threw an artificial sun at it? Then maybe SMITE a bunch of Desslok mines into the lower section launch bay? Maybe throw drill missiles at the rotating turret ring?"

True! LOL. And Desslok was one crafty, determined foe!
