I watched the westernized version, Star Blazers, when I was a kid back in the late seventies and loved it.

I was always curious about the original Japanese version, and it has been a joy to finally be able to see it. While I loved Star Blazers, I must say that Space Battleship Yamato was superior. The overall heroism and pathos of the show were remarkable.

Yamato 2199 is most definitely a worthy new adaptation. When it comes to remaking a classic, this show is a shining example of how to do it.
