Description

Finally got to finish this sketch...

I normally don’t do this, as in give a long personal explanation as of why drawing this was important but here it goes:

This Steven Universe Episode really got to me. As in like on a personal level. Lars’s death wasn’t blunt or sugar coated it, it was unexpected. People here on tumblr have already pointed out that we’d at least expect a character death as everyone seems to bounce back eventually. Not with Lars. And that’s how it can really happen. Sudden and without a warning. You don’t think things through and then -

I’ve went through this, with my best friend. My best friend on four legs a human can ever hope for. She was my everything and she didn’t get hurt sudden, just like Lars did, but she was critically insured. I fought over a month to get her to recover when finally, on the day I told everyone proud what process she had made and things were gonna work out, then everything went south. Within 24 hours a necrotic meat eating bacteria had set on her injury and my world came crushing down on me.

So when Steven can’t muster a word and only cries - a few people criticized for being not melodramatic enough - I felt him. It was the absolute same for me. I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing yet the tears kept coming. It felt like an eternity before I broke out in loud cries in agony where Steven gets to recover since his tears bring Lars back to life.

I think that’s a good thing! It wasn’t rushed. It’s still sad, considering the circumstances. It gave Lars so much more depth in character and I really appreciate the Crewniverse for this.

Hope you enjoy! <3

The shock factor was too great for the sadness to set in in time
If they had dragged this out any longer, it would have been too much and lost its power

The scene was perfect in its effectiveness
if you go back and watch it without the major shock of the first sight, you still feel emotional
It is a beautifully crafted scene and a major turning point in the show in general

This powerful scene is symbolism
This show is not the same as it was, and it never will be
Just like Lars

So sorry about your friend, this drawing is wonderful and the way Steven was animated during this scene was so uncomfortably real.

Once again, I'm terribly sorry for your loss

Have a hug
