Hey everyone, I know a lot of people enjoyed this image so I wrote up a tutorial on how I made it. Hope it helps!
This was a process that worked well for me on a number of character commissions. I don't really work this way anymore, but my process is always changing.

Thank you, Digital Painting has been one of those things that I've had a mild talent for, but never really understood the technique. I'm a 3D artist by trade so no one ever bothered to teach me. I've sort of been flailing around and hoping I accomplish something that looks decent. Recently I've been trying to find the right book to figure out my painting technique with absolutely no luck.
This tutorial has taught me more in the short time it's taken me to read it than all of the books and all of my years of flailing around.

Nice tutorial and paint style! Really like this splash of green you added to Vin. For some reason, I've never imagined much color in that universe. I imagined her cloaks to be much thicker of substance about her, but conceptually I suppose it wouldn't allow for such movement described in its action scenes.

Awesome. I love when people share their steps - Reading what they did isn't always as helpful (mostly because I know what I should be doing, I'm just too lazy or not skilled enough to do it right

Yeah thanks, you hit the nail on the head! There's always a point that an artists gets to I think, when they realize tutorials don't actually mean anything haha. Just takes hard work! Glad you enjoyed seeing it either way
