excellent picture.Β Hyperion is one of my favorite works.Β The background, hands,Β chest, and ambianceΒ are perfect.Β The face is amazing but my first impression and minutes of review tell me that the eyes are off.Β The eyes speak of a saddening duty that must be performed.Β Lenar Hoyt when he tore at the cruciform was consumed by madness and terror which the rest of the face conveys.Β Maybe a wider eye?Β I am no artist but I felt this image was flawed immediately in the eyes.Β This is the first time I've seen your art and am looking forward to seeing the rest.Β Good fortune to you, sir.

I am just reading The Fall Of Hyperion and have purchased both Endymion books today ... I am ABSOLUTELY addicted to this breathtaking series! For itΒ΄s my first scifi-read ever I guess itΒ΄ll be unbelievable hard to find another book of the genre wich manages it to absorbe me like Hyperion does. I had nightmares of the Bikura for nights and cried like a baby when I read the story of Sols daughter ... and also when THIS happened, what you have captured here.
The face you gave to Lenar Hoyt mirrors the hysterical pain of this beloved fictitious character beautifully. Wow!

It's so good! The first and second books really brought out the authors ability to tell a story. Though I haven't read the Endymion part of the series, I'll try to get to them after I finish reading Dune. The story of Sol's daughter was so good.
Thank you!

Man, I loved those books, but it's been so long I'm trying to remember what part of it this was. I was fascinated by the Shrike. Now I need to go dig them out again. Thanks!

Looks like something you'd see on a Magic card (with a lot less gore, of course).
Very visceral.
There is something that bothers me-- from my limited study of anatomy, the bicep cut shouldn't appear so high up for his right arm.
I'm curious what's going on there. Am I just wrong? :0

JasperSandner In reply to Hypogeum [2011-07-02 13:16:20 +0000 UTC]
Hey thanks! That's cool, working on magic cards is kind of a long/short term goal of mine.
Regarding the anatomy in this piece. When the palm is supinated (palm turned towards the sky), and the arm is bent, the bicep curls up into a tight ball, and may appear higher up on the arm. Genetics also come into play with things like muscle length, which can be easily noticed in the calf muscles. Some people have calves that seem to take up 2/3 of their leg, while others may seem set up higher and much shorter, regardless of whether or not the muscle is flexed. So no, you're not wrong, it's a valid concern that you have, but I think I'm within anatomical boundaries here. Thanks for pointing it out either way, it's always good to be thinking about anatomy

I... woah! It does bunch up! Thanks for the small anatomy lesson; I learned everything from Google, so I miss tidbits like that.
And I do love me some new dictionary words.

I can't tell if he's ripping off his flesh or if his flesh had grown around his fingers and he had to pull them out. O.o Cause I've read a comic where the latter had happened.
Amazing art, either way.
