Description Salt Lake, Akrotiri, Cyprus.

In only a week which I had in Cyprus I only managed to get to the south coast and this salt lake on one occasion. I actually wanted to photograph the Flamingos which migrate here during the winter. Unfortunately the birds were out in the middle of the lake and there was no way either natural or man made to get close enough to photograph them.

The Lake was under a grey sky all day but I wanted to make a photographic record of it all the same, so ankle deep in wet sand I tryed to find some kind of a composition. Given the fact that it is so bleak and mostly looks like this around the edge it wasn't easy. This portrays my visit and the conditions I had all day whilst exploring the area.

I don't expect this to be very popular on here, it is not a sunset, long exposure or colourful image but it is as it was and I enjoyed it.....

It's beautiful. Very desolate and calm.

Love the simplicity here Jake. Small view it looked bland but opened it full size and was quite impressed by the amount of detail

Thanks Drew, that's what I hoped. It's difficult when you have a real feeling for a place (I loved it here)but there is little subject matter to place within the usual confines of a composition....

I really like this mate. Conveys a sense of open, barren land and its moody as.

Thanks justin. I like it too but never sure about the response on here, people have narrow minded tastes sometimes.....

well its personal preference at the and of the day and the general public- thats the problem. Half of them havn't a clue about photography and are obsessed by overcooked and processed, strong saturated images (like HDR) and have no idea what the natural world ACTUALLY looks like lol.

a nicely composed image all the same, even if it maybe lacks the "wow" factor.. horizon is tilted slightly to the left btw
