You make fantasy creatures? This model is so finely done! The wiring attaching parts so they can move looks so nice. Your other pictures also have such great detail. May i ask what do you use to get refference or ideas for these creatures? Outright combining things or looking at other images?

Thanks, basically the only kind of reference I use is for poses, like for wolf poses, or a combination of pictures that I can reference to make up a pose

Yes I do. They range from about $35 for a sketch like this up to $300+ for a full illustration.Β

Great use of contrasting colors, and the tail's design is very interesting to look at. How you made the dangling lines in this sketch are also very helpful with moving the viewer's eye around the piece. Even though it is a quick sketch, if you wish to improve it in the future, perhaps add some light on where it would make sense so there is the illusion of depth on the wolf. Other than that, very well done.

Thanks! For diffused lighting, you don't need depth in the fur, as it's thicker and together and you don't see much occlusion, no would you get any specular reflection to add any dimension. A silhouette would be sufficient to demonstrate the concept, which is why strong lighting would only ruin the piece.Β

That must be a hell of a heavy tail.
I imagine this wolf wandering through the underwood while his tail is rattling behind him as he drags it apathetically along. That could enhance the creepiness and the wolf could have his peace and quiet because no one dares to encounter such noise.
