Description ...searching far and wide.

Lol this actually turned out better than I expected.
Anyway, I made this for the landscape contest. I thought I'd enter 'cos I suck at backgrounds and landscapes -_- needed to give it some effort!

Anyway, this is Kanto. Ash and Pikachu are overlooking it, staring towards the Indigo Plateau. This is also a 100% INaccurate drawing of Kanto >_< I would say whoops, but it was hardly possible anyway. I just put recognisable stuff where you could see it. There's the cycling road, PokΓ©mon tower, the S.S. Anne, Viridian Forest, Mount Moon...yeah, most of it's there except Pallet Town I think, but everything's in a different place.

There's also a Gyarados under Cycling Road and some Gastly around the PokΓ©mon tower, also, a Lapras and what's meant to be Seel near Seafoam Islands and the Legendary birds as shilouettes.

This is really nice, I like the fact you've got all the little things together, it doesn't matter if it's inaccurate because it really shows a flavour of what they encounter through Kanto.

Lolz. I really like this...er, liek this. It's just so... detailed, perhaps? Granted, the scale seems to confuse the brain a little, but I love the teeny bits. The glow and positions of teh Birds was a nce touch too. Thumbs up!

Thanks ^^ Yeah, I did try and put more detail in, but the scale was a big issue. Firstly, I wasn't that good at it anyway (Ash is very out of scale) but also because I had to rearrange Kanto to make certain things noticeable. The big yellow tower is meant to mark Saffron (Silph Co.) yet is no where near the centre. The rock Ash is on is an invented summit of Rock Tunnel; it's above Lavender and to the right of Cerulean (it's hard to make out, but it's by Nugget Bridge on Mount Moon which is just above the middle.) But the fact Saffron isn't in the centre screws everything up. Also I missed Pallet because it would've been where Saffron is, and I'm also missing Celadon. I did want to add a few more little details but it's too far out to make anything worthwhile. You can hardly make out all the little Pohgeymans I added.

Thumbs partially up!

Thank you ^^
Well, I drew the basic outline about a week or more ago and I can't remember how long that took me. But going over it and colouring it (basically everything, since the basic sketch was just scribbly circles -_-) took maybe 2 hours. I don't know whether to be pleased or horrified. But if I managed to achieve the look I wanted in 2 hours, I can't argue, despite most of it was done by messing about the colour/light balances. o_0

0.o wow haha it looks like it took forever to do, so many different parts you know? it's just awesome looking ^_^

Jacktoon In reply to PlatypusDoomSquad [2010-03-11 18:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, yeah, it was tough arranging all the different parts. That's why Kanto's all over the (wrong)place o_0

And thanks

lol i like it anyways, makes you attempt to think of how the map actually goes, and thats when you realize you could probably draw the entire kanto map down and even mark where the rock tunnel is and the seafoam islands are

sure thing ^_^

Yeah, it was nice having a bit of freedom with how Kanto is laid out. The official artworks of the region sometimes stray slightly from the game. I remember having the PokΓ©mon Board Game that used an artworked map of Kanto >_<

Wow awesome
I suck at backgrounds/landscapes...

Jacktoon In reply to marciocjr13 [2010-03-10 17:14:23 +0000 UTC]

Heh, thank you
But I suck at backgrounds and landscapes too! That's why I was so surprised how this turned out. I think it's because in this picture, the landscape is the focal point, whereas in say a comic the characters are the focal point instead.. and therefore I spend less time on the background in a comic >_<.

What I'm saying is, the best way to amplify a background is to either make it the focal point or just to spend more time on it. But I think if the background is too complicated/detailed it takes attention way from characters, especially in comic panels. -_-

marciocjr13 In reply to Jacktoon [2010-03-10 21:28:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you're right But in Untitled Saga, I must do the backs VERY detailed! (But with blur if it isn't the focal point )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jacktoon In reply to marciocjr13 [2010-03-10 22:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I never thought about blur. Yes, that's a good way to do nice detailed backgrounds and to remove focus. Very good idea I normally stick to doing mine washed-out.

Rule of thirds, eh? I'd never actually heard of it until now. Maybe I ought to keep that in mind from now on! Thanks for the enlightenment.
