Description From the Dragon Age Fanfiction series: Fate and Forbearance.

"The figure rose up, facing the men.  The thin, ragged gown did nothing to obscure the fact that most of her stomach was a gaping maw.  A lip-less smile drew her grotesque face up high to her eyes, voids of sickly white where there should have been irises.  Blackened charred skin surrounded that hideous mouth, dripping black ichor and rotten blood." - a description of a Bride from the chapter 'Brides of Urthemiel'

www.fanfiction.net/s/5736086/5…

As their name implies, they are the old 'brides' of the Dragon God, Urthemiel, who were burned alive from the inside when he tried to reproduce with them, their mortal bodies unable to withstand giving birth to such inhuman god-like offspring.  After their failure to their deity husband, and subsequent death, Urthemiel gave them a new function, to bring him the untainted souls of mortals for him to feast on.   Like Banshees, their wail is a powerful and eerie thing to hear at night, unlike traditional Banshees, they are not the guileless messengers of death, but bringers of death.  They suck out the souls of innocent victims, and those that are found to be less than pure are broken to pieces by their powerful shrieking.  Dressed in what remains of the enchanted garments their unholy husband gave them so many centuries ago, there is little to define who and what they once were, all mortal females who died as Urthemiel's Brides, were drained of life and color, existing now only in shades of sickly whites, greens and grays.

Someday I'll have enough to funds to hire a very, very good artist of the macabre to really give us an idea of what these unfortunate and ghastly bridal mockeries look like, but until then, you have my meager attempts, courtesy of Azalea Dolls.

This is really cool.  Nice (is nice the right word?!) to see the Brides depicted in art.  It makes me wonder though...is this Morrigan's future...?!  The horror!

Though Morrigan was Urthemiel's host and not a bride, that doesn't mean this isn't possible.   He's very fond of recycling his victims for future use after all.

The fact that they look so formal actually makes them more scary. There's a bit of Gothic horror right there.

I listened to Wagner's Bridal Chorus March while making this, lol!  That piece now sounds VERY creepy to me, so I guess that one's out for a trip down the aisle.

Yup, things that have a little bit of normalcy mixed in with the horror always scare me more.  Like Urthemiel's formal speech while he's casually talking about killing people.

Wagner is scary anyway, except Parsifal. I like Parsifal. Perhaps you should try some nice um...folk or jazz for that walk down the isle?

It's when normalcy is threatened we get scared so yes, mixing that with horror, suddenly makes the horror seem so much closer.
