Thank you very much...... I’m glad you compared it to Malaysia because I think I might have been thinking the same thing when I looked at this. I had recently heard about how Singapore underwent a major economic change in the 60's and 70's and skyscrapers seemed to pop up overnight. I’m very glad you like this so much.

This pic is brilliant. I wonder what it would look like as monocromatic blue....hmm..it would probably look like a bruise...but anyway! I was wondering what your thoughts were when you took this photo. Were you trying to capture something, or was it just for fun?

Yes, you did answer my question ^^. I felt the focus of the picture was more on the "ONLY" road sign than it was anything else. I think the skyscrapers in the background only amplifies what the sign says. I might even go as far to say that you have captured the concept of monotony. Think about it. When I see this picture, I imagine myself walking down the street, watching cars and people pass me by without a greeting or acknowledgment of my existence. I sidestep to accomodate myself looking up at the buildings and manuver myself around the white collared workers, too busy in their routine to see the world. They isolated themselves into monotonous beat of city, stuck in the "ONLY" lane, the only lane they know.......creepy. And to make it even better, you even made it into a black and white photo. You unwittingly reinforced what you captured (am I the only one who sees this or am I just one sandwich sort of a picnic?)
Anyways! I don't mind the Beastie Boys, it's the gangster rap that I can't stand. But now that I'm curious, I'm going to see if I can find this "sure shot" song. Don't worry, I'm not going to pirate it . I find it interesting to see what sparks an artist's inspiration to do what they do (how artists "tick" is more or less what I'm trying to say). Until next time

You are very generous with your words of kindness. It shows in your photos as well. I listened to "sure shot" and I must say, it made me want to walk down the street in slow motion, ready to karate chop the next person who bumps into me. But aside from this momentary notion to be Matrix-ish, the song was awesome. I have not listened to Portishead for a long time. I remember that the song that I did like was "undenied". I can't remember where I heard it from, but I believe it was from a movie.
Speaking of which, have you seen "Garden State"? I rather enjoyed it. If you haven't, I highly recommend it. It's basically about the loss and gain of human identity; one of the more compelling themes of literature. The reason I ask is because I think it shares something with your photo. Tell me when you've seen it, and then I'll tell you what I was thinking :-P. Until then....

I loved Garden State because I connected with it somehow. Remember as a young teenager you just got bombarded with emotions and you were confused and all the friends in the world didn't seem like they could bail you out. Not even your parents understood which hurt you because that image of your parents being perfect was somehow altered. Then sooner or later, you go into that numb phase; if you can't fix the problem, just ignore it. That's what Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) reminded me of. That awkward phase when you didn't feel anything. You weren't mad, or sad, or happy. Just went through life questioning when you'll feel anything again, if you ever felt anything at all, and you hope that one day everything will be right as rain. And suddenly it does (when Zach's character meets Sam, played by Natalie Portman). An inspirational film about the journey of finding yourself, love, and friends. Not only that, but it's got a great soundtrack too . I even bought Frou Frou's CD after I heard that song on the track. What did you think of the movie itself!?
I did listen to that "Come to Daddy", and I must say, it is quite different from what I have ever heard. Interesting to say the least, but I don't think I could listen to that everday. I must find this film you speak of, "Requiem for a Dream". I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to find. I have been warned about "Pi" and "A Clockwork Orange", but that doesn't mean that I'm not curious about it. But I have seen "Momento", and wow, that's sad yet profound. The ability to forget yourself and never to pick up where you left off again. What a mind trip man. I'm going to have to declare a "mind-puzzling movie day" sometime for myself. But until then...

Frou Frou is good stuff, I like a lot of that more laid back type of music. I liked all of the movie..... I related a lot to when they went searching for his mothers neckless. That entire day was so weird and just an adventure, they went and saw a bunch of crazy mysterious things, and then they find themselves down by a bottomless abyss in a trailer with people that live there...... and I can just relate to having days that are just crazy......... one day I had started out pretty normal and ended with me partying with a bunch of Olympians for example, or the time me and some friends went to Mexico and I was left there and I ended up staying with the family of this guy that worked in a restaurant we went to and no one really spoke English, and it was deep into the more rough part of this city and I found myself sticking out like a sore thumb with a polo shirt and khaki shorts and a very large and bulky thousand dollar digital SLR camera. Yeah that was an experience.
Momento was a good movie, I will have to watch it again because it’s a complicated story and needs to be seen more that once to fully understand it. Requiem for a Dream shouldn’t be at all hard to find, it was written and directed by Darren Arronofsky who also did the movie Pi by the way. A Clockwork Orange is directed by Stanley Kubrick and is a very interesting movie..... good luck with your movie watching....... I did see a German film recently called “Run Lola Run” I think you might like it. It was interesting. Another movie where the way it was shot was beautiful is the movie “Belly,” the plot really isn’t that great, nor the dialogue, but is one of the most visually beautiful movies I have seen.

Wow, you really had have crazy days. I wish I could be stuck in Mexico, then maybe I can put my Spanish to use. I'm sorry to say I haven't had a chance to rent nor watch your recommended movies. Although the one movie I did see this weekend was "Dukes of Hazzard", and I'm very sorry to say that I did. Apparently it was a cheap movie that my friends wanted to see and besides, if you brought a bowl to put popcorn it, then the popcorn was free. But honestly! It had some entertaining car stunts and its funny moments, but otherwise, not a very good time-filler. I felt seriously felt myself losing 10 I.Q. points by the time Jessica Simpson flashed (literally...she wasn't wearing anything!) on the screen. Don't worry, I think I have regained some of my wits and I should be expected to make a full recovery by the end of this week.
Have you ever heard of the Broadway sensation "Stomp"? They are a bunch of people who create rhythmic music by drumming on garbage cans, poles, etc; suburban objects and such. They are coming to a theatre near me and I can't wait! I love it when people use ordinary objects and turn them into something wonderfully extraordinary in "out of the box" ways. Which was one of the reasons why I caught onto your work so quickly. You certainly have the talent. Until next time...

Yeah I saw “Dukes of Hazzard” in the theater.......... I’m sure that it wasn’t as enjoyable on a T.V. as it was when I saw it on a big screen.......... so I liked it to the point where I thought my I got my money’s worth. But I wouldn’t rent or watch it again if I have the choice... one of those one time watch movies. I need all the I.Q. I can get too, so I try to avoid those movies sometimes.
I watched the movie Memento last night, thought you would like to hear that. Me and two of my friends were going to watch a movie and one of the movies they owned was Memento, so we watched it...... the story is great, and the way it was put together was very well done......... although I don’t like how it looks visually...... I like it a lot but I would have really loved it if the cinematography was better. I also caught the last half of the movie Magnolia......... if you haven’t seen that.............. that is a great one, I finally decided that my favorite movie ever is a toss up between Requiem for a Dream and Magnolia.
Never heard of “Stomp” but I have probably heard them or seen them on the net........ but I love that type of stuff.
Peace.

Well, I must say, when I watched "Full Metal Jacket" on Monday night, I just about fell off my chair. Not that it was bad or anything, I was just laughing so hard at the funny stuff, and blown away at the darker scenes. It was what my dad refered to as the "theatre of the absurd". Basically there is so much irony, hypocracy, and dark humor in it that even though it is brilliant, it is almost too absurd to think about. Those are my kind of movies. That's why I love the books "Catch 22" and "The Things They Carried" and the movies "Apocolypse Now" and even "Full Metal Jacket"...wow, it just occured to me that they are all about war....gosh, aren't I just a sick puppy with a twisted sense of humor...I guess that would explain why I laugh at all the scary movies (the only movies I cannot watch is "Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2" <--- way too demonic for me man).
But on a lighter note, I think I can rent your recommended movies at the library; that way I don't have to pay for them at Blockbuster or something. Besides, it took me 2 weeks to come up with the 8 bucks that I need to see Harry Potter! Yes, I enjoy the movies very much- although it is mostly my friend and I critiquing the movie and the soundtrack behind it as well...yes, I'm a band geek, and I think music is crucial if you want to set the tone to a movie. For instance, my friend and I were not impressed by the "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" soundtrack. We felt that it was not dark enough (or what we call "doomaged") for what the book originally calls for. We were upset with John Williams, the composer, for awhile. But how can we be mad at him for this when he has done such a fantastic job with the first two movies of Harry Potter, Jaws, Indiana Jones, E.T., Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and so many Broadway show music!
Ok, I've had enough of me. I look forward to your next DA. Until then...

Haha, Full Metal Jacket is a classic. I love that last scene where they are doing the mickey mouse cadence, thank you very much Mr. Kubrick for your wonderful movies. I havent read “The things they carried” but I have read “If I die in a combat zone” which is by the same author. It was a great read. Apocalypse now was a masterpiece. I heard the new Harry Potter was alright as well. Jon Williams is great, but yeah, that movie needed a more darkness for music. And yes music is very important. My dream would be to have my own photography show at a gallery where there was music coming in over speakers, the music would be the music that inspires my art and whatnot.
I watched Requiem for a Dream about 2 or 3 more times recently. You need to see it. It’s so great. One of the only movies I could watch again and again, a movie that you could look at very closely and study it visually.

I haven't had the chance to read his other novels, but I highly suggest "The Things They Carried". My favorite quote is "At the hour of dusk you sit at your foxhole and look out on a wide river turning pinkish red, and at the mountains beyond, and although in the morning you must cross the river and go into the mountains and do terrible things and maybe die, even so, you find yourself studying the fine colors on the river, you feel wonder and awe at the setting of the sun, and you are filled with a hard, aching love for how the world could be and always should be, but now is not." Isn't that true? We wish for a better world, and it should be a better world, but it's not because of (fill in the blank). Another thing I loved about this book; in his last few sentences in the first chapter, it says that love is not necessary to live, yet his next chapter is titled "love" and how one cannot bear to go on without it. Can you dig it? Until next time...
