Description Terry Pratchett quote that's been bouncing around in my head for a while; after a false start a couple weeks ago I can finally put this one to bed.

I really love this one! Everything about it just goes together so well - the colors, the highlights on the scythe... I really like the type you've used; it's stark, yet elegant and the tall 'T' makes it feel really well balanced(?). Not sure what the right term would be The colors are just beautiful as well - vivid, but not detracting from the text - and the way the scythe is drawn seems to bring everything together perfectly.

Thank you! It has a few mistakes but overall I am pleased — Lapidary style Romans are really difficult with a pen but it's the best I've been able to manage so far. I would have finished the piece a few weeks ago but I had trouble with the previous paper I was using (Ingres)—even the lowest tack tape or frisket would pull the paper apart when removed. The arc of the scythe (and the "glow" below the blade) are of course done with an airbrush to make them smooth and more of a design element than something that looks painted, because while I definitely wanted to include it, I also wanted to make the text the focus of the piece

Wow, that does sound troublesome! What paper did you end up using?
It came out really nicely, though! I'm quite a fan of "lapidary style Romans", as I've just learned they're called - and it fits really well with the theme. Brilliant job on the airbrushed glow, btw - the effect is so natural, I'd assumed it was a lucky trick of the light from when the image was taken.

Ah, no accident there—this is actually a scan of the piece so the subtleties (including all the various mistakes) are clearly and accurately represented. In retrospect it would be nice if the blade edge were even a little darker so as to be even lower-key ... But I'm not about to redo this piece to change a few little things or fix little mistakes.

The script is more formally called “Capitalis Monumentalis” although as with all scripts names vary depending on the paleographer.

The paper for this piece is actually Fabriano Tiziano, which is a pastel paper. Works very well—I picked up a few more sheets in different colours today for more pieces to come later.

Ah, I see. Well, I'm not as attuned to little technical mistakes, but it seems quite excellent in any case

Hmmm, interesting. I may look into it if I go back to some more traditional work; I've not had much success with using ink on the papers I currently have. For now though, I'm looking forward to seeing your new works.
