..I love this. I saw it in the thumbsahre, but I ain't even going to bother posting.I just have to comment here.
I'm a fan of high contrast work. It use to be one of the trademarks in my drawings. However, I never liked it much in landscapes because it generally meant very vividly sunny days with deep shadows, which tended to have an atmosphere I didn't like. But this plays out like a scene in ae.fantasy novel, I love it! It almost looks like a painting in some areas, and has quite a creepy vibe.

I've tried five or six times and this my only really successful try. The hardest part is trying to create a nice composition in the dark, and then you have to hope the lightning doesn't move somewhere else before you start the exposure.

Multiple people have mentioned that to me in there comments. I'd like to say for everyone that the secret is obviously the right lightning, but if you shoot in RAW and have complete control over your white balance in post processing you will be able to get the colors in the scene to be as powerful and accurate as possible.

No single exposure. I don't feel an HDR would work with lightning because each time the lightning flashes it's in a different area in the sky and changes the lighting dramatically. You could do a HDR from a single exposure using the RAW file but I normally hate those.

Well I like ur pic. either way! Thanks for the info and do u think that replicating the image 3 times ( 3 different exposures) with a photo edeting software, would look just as good as if u took 3 diferent shots with a dslr camera?

wow you really got a very nice strike! I noticed you used a very very long exposure of 2 minutes instead of 5-10 seconds, was it intended to capture the tree and the grass as well? (don't misinterpret me, it adds nicely to the shot, I'm just curious)

I wanted a long enough exposure for the grass and tree, but shooting longer exposures also allowed me to capture multiple bolts and light up more of the horizon.
